FAQ
_ _
- How can I keep the old moods?
1) disable the old mood manager, install the new mood manager
2) run these queries
ALTER TABLE 'user' DROP 'vmood';
ALTER TABLE 'user' CHANGE 'mood' 'vmood' varchar(100) NOT NULL DEFAULT 'none';
- How can I change the location of the mood in the postbit?
disable the auto edit in the Admin CP, now you will have access to
$vmood_postbit
place that anywhere you want in the postbit templates (well the location where you want the mood to show)
- How can I change the location of the moods dropdown menu navbar
disable the auto edit in the Admin CP, now you will have access to
$vmood_form
place that anywhere you want in the navbar template, you can try other templates but I can't say if it will work or not
- Why am I getting two mood images in the postbit, how can I stop this from happening?
In the admin cp, disable the auto edit

Sweet! I can't wait to update...
I have a question.. I noticed that this mod has a problem with working on vBadvanced CMPS if you have your portal on sitename.com but your forums on forums.sitename.com - You get a security problem in Firefox (reported by Firebug) that reads:
uncaught exception: Permission denied to call method XMLHttpRequest.open
Any idea of how to get this to work? I tried all previous vBadvanced fixes listed in the 3.6 thread, but none of them work when using sitename.com (portal) and forums.sitename.com (forums) without producing the quoted error!
If you can offer any pointers, I'd be eternally grateful!
Old mood system still works well on my 3.7.0
Are there any advantages in upgrading ?

I installed this and it didn't work. Users are not able to select a mood from the list. Just pops up a menu and can scroll through but that's it. Both on Firefox 3beta and IE 7

Make sure you set the options in the VBOptions menu, you have to set the path for both the images and the javascript file.

What variable would we add to have this work in vBadvanced?

Lookin' good Sniper :) Though the alignment of images to the 'Mood' indication text could do with a little work maybe.
-=Sniper=-
05-04-2008, 09:44 AM
whitetigergrowl: it adds no queries (only query run is when someone changes their mood) etc on the forum pages just html and javascript so should not cause any problem
Alien: I'll add the text only option soon. Not worked with vbadvanced for a very long time so unable to help with thatm maybe someone else can.
GamerGirl27: could you post a screenshot of what you mean, thanks

Confirmed, I'm getting it to
It's causing about 3-4 seconds of delay when loading any page, due to the mood selector at the top.
I disabled the addon for the time being.

Oh, and another question...
What variable would we add to have this work in vBadvanced?
Just go into vBa CMPS -> Default Settings -> Portal Output Global Variables
and add the variables:
usermoods
vbmoods
SpongeFreak52

Few questions.
Firstly, I still can't get it to work with vBadvanced, as the dropdown list is still blank when clicked on from it.
Second, how would I move the mood from next to the user info to underneath the username in the postbit?
Thanks in advance, and nice mod! =)
-=Sniper=-
05-04-2008, 02:15 PM
rungok: I don't think that will work any more since I have changed variable names.
SpongeFreak52: at the moment you can't change the position in the postbit but in the future version, you will be able to.
Are you guys sure 3.6.x version works ok, change a mood and check it saves it, since with the new security token system it might appear to work but will not.

Yeah, same issue here.
In fact, you can even completely remove:
usermoods
vbmoods
from your global variables in your vBadvanced and it will still show the exact same way, proving that the above variables no longer work or are needed.
I suspect somehow if we have the option to use the full path everywhere (including in the plug-in files) that the portal (and photopost gallery) would then work.

More of a suggestion than anything else here. I noticed that when you opt to using other custom mood images it's not very user friendly and I had to go into the xml and insert the dimensions of the new mood icons that I designed. As you can see I set the title "my mood" so that it sits flush with the bottom of the icon in the postbit and I'm still tinkering around and trying to set it so it is flush under the private messages the same way as in the postbit because it seemed using the larger icons looked strangely aligned when the larger icons are applied.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/07/13.gif
If you could also bold the text "my moods" so that it is more prominent would be great so that you don't have to go into the xml file and alter each time when an update comes out.
I guess my suggestion is to apply a more user friendly solution for people who want to use other custom icons with different dimensions without us going into the xml file and altering it to the new mood image dimensions. :)
Good work sniper and I hope to see these small grievances addressed. :up:

Shelley, can you share what you did for the alignment? I want to make my own images also...so all you need to do is edit the .xml file for the different sizes?
Shelley_c
05-04-2008, 04:51 PM
Edit the xml file and change the default dimensions to the appropriate sizes.
Find:
#vmoods {display: block; height: 28px; width: 93px;}
Change the dimensions to complement the new sizes and scroll down and change the sizes again to the following.
{
$vmood = trim($vmood);
$vmoods_li .= '<li><img src="' . $vbulletin->options['vmoods_images_path'] . '/' . $vmood . '.gif" width="93px" height="28px" alt="' . $vmood . '" class="vmood" /></li>' . "\r";
}
Edit: I forgot to mention and I've only had the time to set it in the postbit so if your icons are nearing 30 pixels in height you'll noticed that the text "my moods" sits in the middle. If you want it sitting flush with the icon you'll need to change the vertical align to Botton instead of Middle where it was originally set as. Bare in mind all your settings will be lost whenever there's an update and your best waiting to see if sniper addresses these issues.
<span style="vertical-align: bottom;">$vbphrase[vmoods_my_mood]:</span> </span>

The 3.6 version doesn't work for my users on 3.7, they keep getting the security token error, even thought the interface 'looks' alright.
To install this one, though, I need the flexibility to install it wherever I want on postbit, so I'm waiting for more detailed instructions or comments on how to do this.

It could be the javascript or html that's doing it. Maybe something with the coding thats affecting something else on the forum?! Whatever the case, when the old hack was installed this issue simply wasn't there. The minute I installed this, it's caused the page to delay loading. The only thing that loads first is the header. Everything else must now wait, then appears at the same time. I'm on high speed internet (10MB). That problem was not there prior to this being installed. And I can guarantee it (the problem) will disappear if the hack is uninstalled. As it didn't occur even when the old one was installed. No doubt, there is something with how this particular hack is handling something that's causing this. Clearing cache has been uneffective. As well, I toggle between IE ad FF's latest versions.

Hi Sniper,
This is what I was referring to:
Current Mood text placement
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/05/85.jpg
It would be good if the text could be centered in relation to the mood image, like this:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/05/86.jpg
Or even at the bottom of the image to accommodate for larger ones?
I also found that after I originally installed it, I had to add an extra break under the mood line because the image overlapped off onto the menu area - because I am using bigger mood images than the default ones. Thought it was worth a mention :D
Also the : is missing after the 'Mood' text in postbits. I tried to add it manually but this added 2 :: to the one in the navmenu lol. So I have left it as-is for now.
Cheers,
Nikki.

You could pull that off with a table cell with valign="center" on it. The mood changer always did oddball things to my page load times when I had it in a high traffic place, so I ended up putting it in the User CP.

works well except a few things
1) when no mood selected the message that says click here to change or what ever
that hangs out of the nav bar
2) page never fully loads in FF for sure idk about others
3) should be a choice to choose no mood
4) rather large gap between My Mood: and the actual drop menu
other then that nice job but i think i will stick to the old version seems to work alot better
ill check back on this one in a few weeks and see the progress

The issues have remained with regards to the alignment problems when I input the custom dimensions. As you you can see the mood text is sitting on top of the icon.
Still can't implement the alignment so that the text sits flush with the bottom of the icon. There's also an extra: on the text at the top.
Speeds are better. :)

Shelley_c: the extra ":" should be removed (just uploaded new file now)
as for alignment, I messed around for a couple of hours trying to make it dynamic with the image size, I'm no expert with CSS but I know its not very easy to vertical-align images using css, so if someone else has a solution, I'd be happy to include it.

Thanks for the effort sniper. I managed to align it in the postbit area with it flush with the image but I was still working on aligning it with the image up by the PM area.
For me to align it again I'll still need to go back into the xml file and input the custom dimensions because I know I input the same two dimensions twice in the old xml file but with the update I only had the option to insert it once. :D
Anyway, thanks again. :up:

For me to align it again I'll still need to go back into the xml file and input the custom dimensions because I know I input the same two dimensions twice in the old xml file but with the update I only had the option to insert it once. :D
Anyway, thanks again. :up:

<defaultvalue>#vmoods {display: block; height: 15px; width: 72px;}

Weird. Works fine in FF for me. But IE 7 it still loads the header before loading the rest of the page. It's a weird delay. If you just click on the header to refresh it's not that bad. But if you do a normal refresh using the IE7 refresh button the delay occurs. Odd. I updated it to the newest release with those results still there.

Replace all the code on the #vmoods-container p line with the following.
#vmoods-container p{margin:0px; float:left; font-weight: bold;}
If your using the default icons you should be fine with the spacing that the larger custom icons that some of us are using but that should resolve the gap issue. :)

Well, i have a good feature idea... Why not allow custom icons for moods as well as custom moods. Also... maybe a psd template of the ones u already used. That way it can be more customizeable. Also, Why not allow it to be part of the person's signature.

Are you guys sure 3.6.x version works ok, change a mood and check it saves it, since with the new security token system it might appear to work but will not.
Yes.
Initially it stopped working when they released the token update for RC4, but then it worked again when they released gold, mainly because this (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=25287) issue was resolved.

latest version been changed to $vmoods
You forgot to update this in the AdminCP Options, it still says:
Auto place the menu under the PM area
This will "Auto" place the menu under the PM menu, else you have access to $vmoods_form, you can place that where you want the moods form to appear.
I've just managed to upgrade from the 3.6 version and keep all the current moods set. Little tricky but worth it :)

I had to modify it a bit before I was happy with it also. On the navbar, the "My Moods" text didn't look right as it was not "smallfont" like the other information there. I edited the vmoods template and changed <p>$vbphrase[vmoods_my_mood]</p> to <p class="smallfont">$vbphrase[vmoods_my_mood]</p> - I also moved it above the PM notifications.
Just personal preference/aesthetics there though. It's quite easy to edit to your needs :)

- create a fake user (do not assign to it any mood) - (I did it with an old dismissed user I've not created a new one but i guess is the same)

It's actually $vmoods not $vmoods_form that you need to manually insert into your Navbar. Sniper mentioned this earlier in the thread, but the description field in ACP hasn't been updated yet and still refers to the old phrase.

I hope Sniper will not kill me if I give my raw solution to use this great hack also with vba_cmps. I am not at all a coder so pls excuse me if code could be done better.
Basically i have just added the forum path before mood paths.
Open with an editor Sniper's XML (product-vmoods.xml) Find&Replace
Find:
<img id="vmoods-mine" src="$vboptions[vmoods_images_path]/$bbuserinfo[vmood].gif" border="0" alt="$bbuserinfo[vmood]" title="$bbuserinfo[vmood]"<if condition="$bbuserinfo[vmood] == 'none'"> style="display:none;"</if> />
Replace with :
<img id="vmoods-mine" src="$vboptions[bburl]/$vboptions[vmoods_images_path]/$bbuserinfo[vmood].gif" border="0" alt="$bbuserinfo[vmood]" title="$bbuserinfo[vmood]"<if condition="$bbuserinfo[vmood] == 'none'"> style="display:none;"</if> />
Find:
<dd><img src="$vboptions[vmoods_images_path]/$userinfo[vmood].gif" border="0" /></dd>
Replace with:
<dd><img src="$vboptions[bburl]/$vboptions[vmoods_images_path]/$userinfo[vmood].gif" border="0" /></dd>
Find:
<script type="text/javascript" src="$vboptions[vmoods_script_path]/vmoods.js?v=$vboptions[simpleversion]"></script>
Replace with:
<script type="text/javascript" src="$vboptions[bburl]/$vboptions[vmoods_script_path]/vmoods.js?v=$vboptions[simpleversion]"></script>
Find:
var VMOODS_IMAGES_PATH = '$vboptions[vmoods_images_path]';
Replace with:
var VMOODS_IMAGES_PATH = '$vboptions[bburl]/$vboptions[vmoods_images_path]';
Find:
<img id="vmood-$vmood_id" src="$vmoods_path/$vmood.gif" alt="$vmood" title="$vmood" class="vmood" />
Replace with:
<img id="vmood-$vmood_id" src="$vboptions[bburl]/$vmoods_path/$vmood.gif" alt="$vmood" title="$vmood" class="vmood" />
Find:
<img style="vertical-align: middle" src="$vboptions[vmoods_images_path]/$post[vmood].gif" border="0" />
Replace with:
<img style="vertical-align: middle" src="$vboptions[bburl]/$vboptions[vmoods_images_path]/$post[vmood].gif" border="0" />
Now
open Sniper's vmoods.js file - Find&Replace
note: for this you should individually insert your domainurl/forum path.
I did not found another easier solution 4 this step but i think Sniper or any coder will help better.
Find:
YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest("POST", "ajax.php?do=vmoods_update&securitytoken=" + SECURITYTOKEN + "&vmood=" + target.title, {
Replace with:
YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest("POST", "http://www.yourdomainURL/forum/ajax.php?do=vmoods_update&securitytoken=" + SECURITYTOKEN + "&vmood=" + target.title, {
Now re-upload vmoods.js and reload product-vmoods.xml with overwrite ON.

- How can I keep the old moods?
1) disable the old mood manager, install the new mood manager
2) run these queries
ALTER TABLE 'user' DROP 'vmood';
ALTER TABLE 'user' CHANGE 'mood' 'vmood' varchar(100) NOT NULL DEFAULT 'none';
Just a side-note in case anyone followed this like I did. As far as I can see the previous version of mood manager left the mood field blank if you didn't select a mood, whereas this one defaults to 'none'. Because of this, any of my members who hadn't selected a mood before showed in the postbit with "My Mood: " and no value there. To sort it I ran the following MySQL query:
UPDATE user SET vmood = 'none' WHERE vmood = ''
Which correctly didn't show "My Mood" in their postbit if they didn't specify one. So if anyone else is having the same problem, give that a try :)

Edit: Just noticed it not displaying properly in vBAdvanced (Tried Portal Output Global Variables as mentioned previously) Anyone figure that one out?
Thanks in advance from an absolute newbie.

I don't know about the vBA issue as the earlier resolution worked for me, but I did the following to get the font/style the same as the rest of the text. I also added a few pixels between "My Mood:" and the actual image.
In the template vmoods, find:
<div id="vmoods-container"><p>$vbphrase[vmoods_my_mood]</p>
Replace with:
<div id="vmoods-container"><p class="smallfont" style="padding-right:5px">$vbphrase[vmoods_my_mood]</p>
May be an easier/more efficient way to do it but I was lazy :D

Thanks much Kinneas. As is normally the case, just before removing the entire package, I looked at every option once more and found that by specifying the full URLs in both the images path and the path to the javascript file, and adding vMoods into the Portal Output Global Variables - vBAdvanced now works fine (whew)
Next up is reducing the size of the font for the phrase My Mood: Should be easy, right? Lazy way preferred.

Can you describe what you put into vbcmps?
Sure. The CMPS panel >> Default Setings >> Main Options >> Portal Output Global Variables >> and typed in vMoods
(Worked well in tamdem with fully specifying the paths vBulletin Options >> Setting Group >> vMoods byZONE365.com >>
Path to where the mood images are stored
and
Path to where the vmoods javascript file is stored
Watch the example paths given:
you can use the full URL if needed. e.g. http://www.forum.com/images/vmoods & you can use the full URL if needed. e.g. http://www.forum.com/vmoods
I hit mine with a browser just to be absolute. Hope it works out. Mine is functioning (and looking nice) - But I seem to be suffering from sleep deprivation now.

Crap. On review - you're right. I've discovered a case sensitivity issue but altering all the above doesn't help. So I am now with you..
Anyone? All works fine with the sole exception of selecting a new mood from the front page of vBadvanced CMPS v3.0.1. Set my mood to Bummed.

OK. I am lost now. I have been running a VB forum for well over 6 years now and am very experienced in installing hacks. I used the mood manager prior to this one but disabled it a while ago since the DHTML menus were not displaying correctly due to a poorly written CSS layout at the time. The new layout does not break the DHTML menus so I went to go install this newer version and it will not behave correctly.
If you go to http://www.forumapex.com you will see the drop-down menu to select the mood but it will not let you actually choose a mood. It shows all of them and fades the images as you mouse over them but if you click or double-click the mood image, it does not get selected and the drop-down menu will not go away unless I click outside of that menu.
Any ideas?

there is a simple typo in readme file or in vbulletin option area, which might confuse people. In readme file it says '$vmood_form' but in products vbulletin option area it says '$vmoods_form'
- How can I change the location of the mood in the postbit?
disable the auto edit in the Admin CP, now you will have access to
$vmood_postbit
place that anywhere you want in the postbit templates (well the location where you want the mood to show)
- How can I change the location of the moods dropdown menu navbar
disable the auto edit in the Admin CP, now you will have access to
$vmood_form

I have that info on the right hand side instead of on the top
Have a look here (http://www.crimecasefiles.com/forum/index.php)
I know I can fix this but I am not sure how
At the moment the only way to select a mood is in the CP.
Where have I gone wrong? It might even be that the images are in the wrong folder?

I've had this running for a couple weeks now and it's been great, however as an exclusive Firefox user, I never knew there was a problem:
1.1.1 Beta - Monday May 5th
- - - - - - - - - -
- Moved javascript/html to footer to improve load times for IE6/7
I've started getting complaints from our users where page loads are anywhere from 45-55 seconds (dedicated server with 2gb of memory). I didn't take much notice to be fair because I never had a problem and just assumed it was on their end until I was changing another mod and opened IE to view the board as a normal user and WHOA was there a load!
So, after disabling every plugin I have one-by-one to try to find the culprit, all were the same until I turned off this mod and page load went back to normal.
So, long story short, is there any way we can get the .js file to work with IE better? Cacheing technique of some sort or a more user friendly version of JSmin (http://www.crockford.com/javascript/jsmin.html)?
Thanks and I look forward to re-enabling this plugin!

I would recommend using text only option for now if you have load problems.
The issue (In IE6/7 when using images in the dropdown menu) is to with the fact the user has to download 50+ mood images and has nothing to do with the javascript. Also this should only happen on the first page load, after which the mood images should be cached by the user browser.
With the latest version this is fixed, the images don't start loading until the page has loaded, was tested with another user who had a similar problem.
The other option (for further improvements) is to dynamicly load images in the dropdown menu e.g. detecting when the user is going down in the dropdown menu, which I might have a ago at doing sometime in the future.

That's what I thought too but I'll be damned if it ain't cacheing!
I even added forced cache to .htaccess

Sweet! I can't wait to update...
I have a question.. I noticed that this mod has a problem with working on vBadvanced CMPS if you have your portal on sitename.com but your forums on forums.sitename.com - You get a security problem in Firefox (reported by Firebug) that reads:
Any idea of how to get this to work? I tried all previous vBadvanced fixes listed in the 3.6 thread, but none of them work when using sitename.com (portal) and forums.sitename.com (forums) without producing the quoted error!
If you can offer any pointers, I'd be eternally grateful!
I'm not sure if this will help but I was also having a problem with CMPS and this fixed it for me.
In the vmoods.js file find this line...
YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest("POST", "ajax.php?do=vmoods_update&securitytoken=" + SECURITYTOKEN + "&vmood=" + target.title, {
On this line add the full path to ajax.php ex: http://www.yoursite.com/forum/ajax.php
Hope this helps :)

Hello all,
When this awesome mod is active, I get a "done with errors" in my status bar at the bottom of IE7 when I visit my vbadvanced main page.
When I visit with FF, FF tells me it's dropping a </form> tag. When I view the rendered html source of that page, and go to the line IE says the error is on, it points to the same tag.
I have no errors on any other page with this mod active, it works well everywhere else. And the error goes completely away when deactivate the mood mod.
Where can I find this </form> tag in this mod? I've searched for hours trying to track it down.
Thanks!!

are there any more mood images available? any new ones being created?
I have this mod working wonderfully on my 3.7.1 board but i would love some new moods.

place that anywhere you want in the navbar template, you can try other templates but I can't say if it will work or not
Why it's not working anywhere else in the navbar? the 3.6 version worked perfectly.

Okay, so there are a few different vmood folders - which one gets installed to the forum/ directory? I put the original vmood folder (with the macos and the vmood folder) and then tried with the vmood folder that has the .xml and the readme. After importing the product via product manager I still didn't get the moods to show up. Oh, and I'm using 3.7.
Help! :)

Edit - nevermind, silly mistake... I forgot to enable it in VBoptions. :o

Thanks for the effort sniper. I managed to align it in the postbit area with it flush with the image but I was still working on aligning it with the image up by the PM area.
Has there been a posted solution for the PM area alignment issue?

See if the above edit works as well for you as it did for me..
Thank you GPC......I tried the edit and it didn't work for us. I finally entered the full url path in the control panel and now it's displayed. The drop-down menu works, the images display, but the moods can't be changed from the cmps page. I can live with that.

Someone previously mentioned the issue with blank moods showing up as red Xs. I ran the database query updating '{blank}' to 'none' which resolved the issue for existing members with no mood set. However, at least some new members are showing red Xs and in those case reporting a problem with not being able to select a mood. Clicking on reset seems to fix this but a more permanent fix would seem to be needed.
It seems to me that the previous Mood manager add-on using {blank} worked just fine - perhaps going back to this in the next version would be an idea.
