Never mind my last post, I did a cache clear and it came up. Great plugin. I was using passiveVid but had heard it is very CPU intensive on the server, so I switch over to this. Great plugin.

Just download the new AME1.2.0 in the first post and when rebuilding post I got a Fatal Error at ame_bbcode.php (line 192). I found out the problem is member use "$" in a CODE tag so I think you shoud replace

That would simply be a YouTube related problem. The modification just embeds them, but any speed/frame rate issues would be related to the host site and/or your own ISP/computer.

Should be possible, provided I can see the embed code. Is their any reason why the Share link opens behind the video player like that? Might want to let the admin know about that problem. I'll look at it on the next Definition Update I do.

Movies Block - Nope, no embed code to speak of or reference.
Vidnw and MovieFather - The problem is their videos are hosted all over the place. Veoh, YouTube, Google. It just wouldn't work, because each site definition needs one embed code and one embed code only. The good news is, there are already definitions for most of the sites they're using. So all one would need to do is copy the permalink from any one of those video's host sites. Usually that code is in the player somewhere obvious.

When using the RSS feed built in VB, and when pulling a feed from certain youtube members - you get a page that has the preview image, a description of the video and then a link to the video page.

For some reason the AME is not taking the link to the video and embedding it.

The VB RSS feed uses this code in the back end to link to the video: url={feed:link}]More.../url That results in a link that the AME does not recognize.

I've noticed, that feed posting doesn't automatically parse URLs either. I have to wrap [url] tags around the {feed:link} to make that work. I'm willing to bet, though, that you can get around that by putting [AME] tags around url you want converted. I haven't tried that yet, though.

youporn doesn't want thier video's being shared for some reason, and their embedding code is set up to stop you from doing so......I have been working on this one for a couple months now and still have had no luck with it.

That because you don't have a high enough character limit before the [Read More] link truncates the post. Set the character limit higher, enough so that the vBa module doesn't truncate the Embed Code.

Yes but I don't want the entire post to display. Not every announcement will have a video in it. Another thing is that it needs to be posted below the avatar so that it won't get cut off.

You don't neccessarily have to set it that high. I just suggested it as an option, because there won't be anymore support for this modification, as the developer had to move on to other things.

DoB Rhapsody, your only hope on a fix is to do what Digital Jedi suggested, if you dont do that then sorry but nothing else that can be done ... Just set the Character Limit a little bit more, because take into consideration that this is changing a URL into an entire Embed Code + Contained HTML, so you need to add the appropriate length ... There is no other way around it.

The definition for MSNBC videos is available in the Add-On for this mod. However CBS is not available because CBS doesn't provide embed capability. This is also true for most of the major news media outlets.

I can't quite remember what the issue was, but I'd suggest trying a search of this thread and the various XML threads for this mod to see if the solution is in there somewhere.

Just my two cents guys. For the people who wanted to use the RSS feeds and embed videos from them this is what I did. I used the RSS feed from MSNBC and ran the feed to my forum. I edited the template to say the fallowing;

I clicked preview and all the video feeds came threw instead of just showing the link. Now I dont recommend hitting preview with all those feeds because my computer nearly blew up trying to embed all those videos at the same time in the preview. I haven’t seen the videos go threw to the forum yet. No more feeds to add right now, but im pretty confident it should work.

There is one little problem. I get these lil url tags showing up around the video. Not really a problem just anoying. I did disable the option that says Convert HTML to BB Code but i dont think that has to do with any thing.

One of these days they'll catch on that MSNBC has the lead in that department. Until then, I'll keep an eye on them. I work with CNN, MSNBC, CBS and Fixed---er Fox News online videos playing in the background most days. So if they change it, I'll catch it.

It's not my mod, so I'm afraid I can't do that. I can only do what I'm doing now and try to help folks out as best I can.

Also, I'd have to say that's a misconception. The vast majority of 3.7 users who have upgraded from older versions often have made the move with older mods still installed on their forum, or know to check older versions for something they're looking for. A good number of them are still compatable.

You can look at your tables in your Admin CP >>> Maintenance >>> Repair / Optimize Tables to see if anything from passiveVid is still in there. I'd check with the mod developer or someone who has it installed to find out what those tables are named. But to delete them, you'd have to remove them via phpMyAdmin in your hosting account. Though you might want to ask on the passiveVid thread (if you haven't already) if the mods doesn't fully uninstall properly first.

I already have a definition for MLG: The Game Room available in my thread:

AME does not convert attachments. It converts URLs within posts only. You can post the full path to the file, but the URL must end in .mp3 in order for AME to convert it.

I'm trying to install AME. After getting what I think is a valid install, whenever you try to create a thread or post, you get a blank white page. When I disable AME, the problem goes away. So, I'm trying to figure out how to deal with this...

First, the install instructions say to install "product.xml". There is no "product.xml" file. I installed "product-automediaembed.xml" instead. Is this the correct "product.xml".

Second, assuming that I installed the correct xml file... Any ideas why I'm having these problems?

Hi. I copied the AME1.2 upload subfolders to the same subfolder on our web server. I copied the XML files to the ./inlcudes/xml folder on the server.

Firstly, have you ever had any other media embedding modifications installed, such as passiveVid? Some user have had trouble with tables from that modifications remaining in their database even after uninstall. Those tables would need to be removed.

Secondly, try uploading the folders again. You shouldn't have to upload anything individually. Just move everything the same way it's structured in the forums folder to your forum root all at one time. Allow for overwrite. Then re-import the product also allowing for overwrite.

Secondly, try uploading the folders again. You shouldn't have to upload anything individually. Just move everything the same way it's structured in the forums folder to your forum root all at one time. Allow for overwrite. Then re-import the product also allowing for overwrite.

The Geek designed this mod so that additionally supported sites could be added by the community, and thereby minimize having to update it himself all the time. A lot of the default sites where made when this mod was initially released, so some of those don't even work anymore. My thread contains all the updated and collected definitions made by the community. So you'd need those definitions if you wanted the maximum number of supported sites available.

OK, got it. I think I might have two conflicting versions installed because I have an AME settings entry under "vBulletin Options" as well as "AME CP" as its own admin CP menu item.

Just download the new AME1.2.0 in the first post and when rebuilding post I got a Fatal Error at ame_bbcode.php (line 192). I found out the problem is member use "$" in a CODE tag so I think you shoud replace

Just as FYI... Im on holiday so to relax, I crakced this code back open to add some more functionality. Got most of it sorted so there may be a version 2.0 coming out of the blue within the next week.

Specifically, it:
1- Addresses the UTF problem mentioned on this page (title with special characters like ?)
2- Sorts out vanishing $ characters from quotes and code blocks
3- Adds support for vblog
4- Adds support for group posts

Ill more than likely remove most of the 'installed' codes sinces they seem to keep changing more than I update this mod :) DJ (and others) seem to be doing a great job evolving the Code set and I think having AME come with outdated codes doesnt make much sense to new users :)

Anyhoo... the above fixes and features are already done. Ill add a couple toggle switches for the new supported areas and do some gerenal housekeeping on the code before I release.

If there is anything else you can think of that may be needed (apart from codes), give me a shout in this thread, however I can't guarantee that it will make it in.

Hrm, well, from a developer's standpoint, I would love a toggle switch to select/deselect all definitions in the Export screen. I've got a trick where I can Tab+Spacebar through the list pretty quick, but as you can imagine, with 155 definitions, my hand starts to cramp right around 50. :D

This would be entirely self-motivated, but an Add New option in the menu, rather then way down at the bottom of the page would be nice too (well, way down when you have 155+ entries. :erm:)

From a user's perspective, I think some folks would like a multiple delete option. I like the fact that definitions don't overwrite, but when I have too much coffee and do one of my larger definition updates, a lot of folks have asked if that could be added. Maybe a checkbox type deal.

I ran into a couple of posts here on the forum that suggested that AME rebuilt ALL your media link and that if you uninstalled it, you'd end up with useless links, which is why some are using PassiVid. I was hoping you could clarify that doesn't happen (unless you manually choose to) in the description, because I think some folks are misreading.

Other then that, hrm, I don't know. Categories maybe? A couple of people suggested a Profile Block, but, I don't know if thats outside the scope of this mod. Eh, I'm fishing. :D

Hmm... Thats kind of a cool idea, but out of the scope of this mod. However it could easily be done by creating an add on that uses AME's hooks:
1- Add a field to the thread table (i.e. ame_count)
2- in the automediaembed_prep_text_end hook, put something along these lines:

you could then use the ame_count field in a conditional for the TV icon.

Saying that, you would then want to update during edits, deletes and moving of posts. A bit of a pain, but the best 'performance' method possible :D

Yea, it really is outside the scope as AME is designed to scan blocks of text for userdefined URL patterns. A profile block would KNOW that it was geting a media URL and could simply display it in an object tag. In fact, that is pretty easy to do, the only messy part is adding a block as IMO it is very easy and doable, just kind of messy.

Right, what I meant was some folks thought it did it by default and they thought it did it to all your video URLs across the forum no matter what. Meaning that if you uninstalled it, you'd have useless links left over. I've been setting them straight though. :D

Oh, I know. I did have one more question with regard to this, and I can't believe I almost forgot to ask. Sometimes, depending on the site, it's just impossible to get the pertinent data from the URL or the source page. A lot of times it's because the video embed ID isn't part of the HTML, but generated dynamically or the embed code might be located on a separate page. Is there a way to have the RegEx look to a different page then the source? I guess an example would be like this:

The source page is: www.videosite.com/dont_click (http://www.videosite.com/dont_click)

The video ID is neither extractable from the URL nor the source page, but it can be found on these pop-up windows:

www.videosite.com/embed_code/dont_click (http://www.videosite.com/embed_code/dont_click) or
www.videosite.com/embed_code/dont_click/videoid=123456 (http://www.videosite.com/embed_code/dont_click/videoid=123456)

So I build a RegEx for the main URL. Either http://www\.videosite\.com/[\w]+ or ([\w]+)

And somehow have a field where I can tell the RegEx/Embed RegEx to look either in a new specified source page, or in a new specified URL.

I don't think there's anything that can be done for information that's buried in javascript. Also, every so often, embed code is javascript, and it just doesn't convert when posted.

Maybe if you give me a link as an example I can get a better idea or offer some suggestions. Just remember that I am on vacation and I don't have regexp buddy installed on this box so I don't want to spend to much time getting caught up in Regexps :D

Seriously, though, I had some great examples, and I can't seem to find any of them at the moment. One or two of the sites I was having trouble with apparently just changed their URL strings. (!!)

Basically, what I'm running into now and again is where the extraction method is of no use, because the pertinent data is not anywhere on that page, so the RegEx can't reference it at all. (Crazy sites where the video ID might be 3678, but every number in the HTML of the page is 3677. :confused: ) But often, the data I need is located in a pop-up window, a completely different page. If I could only get the RegEx to scan that page I could nab it.

Sometimes, I'm out of luck because the entirety of the page is generated by javascript, with nary a video ID to be found. I don't think much can be done about that.

So far so good. I can confirm the Social Groups behavior you mentioned. Some of the videos didn't' seem to want to continue to load on page reload, but then again, I was testing GameSpot, so all bets are off there. I don't have vBlog yet, so I can't confirm anything on that end.

Backend looks great. Everything seems to be working. I'll try and put it to the full test tonight.

Just a heads up to anyone who has maybe has some customized definitions. Make sure you back those up, because upgrading will replace all your definitions.

brb... ok... added VM support and fixed previous issues. Only thing I can think of adding now is to a rebuild option for visitor messages and removing defunct definitions. On that note... which ones would you think I should remove?

Well, lets see. I've updated almost all of these at least once. iFilm is now Spike. I keep updating YouTube to keep up with new functionality, rather then because it's not working. DailyMotion won't leave their URLs alone. I don't know. On the one hand, a list of commonly used websites gets updated frequently and on the other hand, the sites that have remained fundamentally the same are kind of obscure.


On another side note, I have also whipped up most of the profile media block add on. I thought it would make sense to have something that integrated with AME's definitions. Not sure when Ill get around to finishing it though :)
People will go absolutely crazy over this if you do finish it. Out of curiosity, how will it handle the size of the videos if they're defined too large in the definition?

As far as the definistions go... How about a few standards? I am thinking:
Youtube
Myspace
Google
Yahoo
Amazon

This should play to each element of AMEs strength and those shouldnt change too much. If you have updated versions, can I check those out for possible replacement of the 1.0 versions?

Can you believe it. I had it totally done last night apart from these definitions and I overwrote the product with the last b2 :(

Luckily it wasonly a couple hours worth of work mainly consisting of phrasing and admincp help. The file changes are still intact :D

Anyhoo... I was updating the core definitions but noticed the amazon is pretty different from the original. Any particular reason why?

The profile block tool I sussed, but not sure I am totally happy with it. If I have time, I am going to play with a few more concepts that will encompass the ability to add multiple blocks (i.e. a video, a bookshelf, CD shelf, DVD shelf). It will be a bigger project, so we will have to see how it pans itself out.

Amazon was updated a couple of times. Once time was to accommodate support for Amazon.co.uk, .co.jp, .ca, .fr and .de and to also account for an alternative URL string they where using. Then it was updated again so as not to conflict with the Amazon (aStore) definition. I still got to work one up for Amazon China now that I think about it. Their site is wiggy.

Bear in mind that definitions I did early on might not be as optimized as they could be, since I hadn't been doing it that long. Working on these I've gradually been updating them when I learn cleaner way to structure the RegEx.

Cool. Here is the latest beta which will be complete except for the amazon changes you suggested. I want to do a bit more investigating into those changes before I change them.

Are the URL structures all the same except for the extension?

As I recall is was a bit more then just the extension. Thinking about it again, I think I made a definition for the wiggy URLs, and then someone requested .co.uk which is when I added the extra extensions. Then I edited it again so it wouldn't mess with the austere definition I later made. Couldn't combine the two. I'd have to look at it again to be sure, but I should still have the testing URLs in my demo forum.

Its no problem, I have done a new version and tested it against most of the extensions above.

BTW... hold off testing the above package... Looks like I didnt fully escape the \\ characters while updating the definitions. Therefore most wont work :D

I feel pretty comfortable with the release now so I'll put it together in the release section.

I know , i tried both ,

First i downloaded on my desktop. Then run win zip and took the XML file.
I went to my ADMIN cp , to plugins and products , uploaded it to the product
shows me succesfully uploaded.
Then i open my forum and wheni prees post reply it comes the message above.

That error means that includes/ame_bbcode.php either isnt in the includes folder or that the server cannot run it due to permission problems.

You should be asking in the 2.5 thread then :)

What it means is that either the file ame_bbcode.php wasnt uploaded to the includes folder OR that you need to check permissions on the file as the server cant execute it.

my forum has 1.7M posts. how long does installation take??

i'm afraid that it is crashing my server due to the load of the installation but i don't dare to stop it for fear that the midway installation will cause my site to crash. it has been going on for 30 minutes now. what should i do?

if i just stopped installation, will anything happen? how do i uninstall the stuff added to vb_post already??

Installation usually doesn't take all that long, but this is the older version of AME, and 2.0 for vB 3.7.x has been out for a few months now. You may want to consider going with the most recent stable version.

Give it some more time to install and if nothing happens. There's no way to know what will happen because there's no way to know why it's hanging up. Forum size shouldn't matter, I don't think. What you need to do, what I would do, is make sure you get a complete installation before you even think of trying to uninstall anything.

2.0 was created for the 3.7 series. This was created for the 3.6 series.

It's possible that this version isn't compatible with 3.7.4. 2.0 was released prior to that, so most folks wouldn't still be running this version.

The Geek said he didn't see any reason why not when he first posted it, but it doesn't hurt to double check and search the thread to be sure. I don't know why it would do that on install, but it may be somethin unique to your forum.

So someone posts a direct link to a jpg file, and it converts it to either the img code, or html img src.

Because it would have to be such a broad RegEx, you could end with things trying to convert to a JPG image, when you didn't necessarily want them to.

you have two imported code, just delete one youtube definition. Probably you imported twice the AME definition without deleting the old ones.

I installed this and really like it. Been wanting this functionality for some time. However, I do have a couple of questions that I haven't been able to answer viewing this thread or in the install guide.

1. How do you import the other definitions? For instance I downloaded the Quicktime definition and copied it to the xml folder but I don't think that's how it's done.

2. If I did do the import correctly then what type of link is acceptable? I uploaded it to a server and pasted the link into a post where the MOD is enabled and it didn't parse the link into a video. I'm guessing this must be because it has to come from a streaming support site like Vimeo or Youtube but thought I would ask.

Well, a little more searching and I found the latest version should support VB 3.6 so I gave it a try and it does. It resolves the vimeo request. Now off to the new forum.
