I think I have found a way to get this to work in the VBa CMPS

I got it to work on pro so it might work on lite. Would anyone want to test this?

There's no archive option in the lite version. You need to have the pro version which you can buy from the Inferno Technologies website.

Yes vBShout worked a treat. I tried several times to use the way it were done there with the new ITECH versions, but to no avail. Subsequently, if you are looking for instructions how to add a module with VbShout, then go to www.vbadvanced.com. For this version (Pro & Lite) im hoping someone here at these forums may know how to do it :) Fingers crossed....

From what I was reading, Im guessing this is a template issue? Regarding the max length, it would require a template edit. I think I saw something similar in the base template... I would have to check on that though

Yeah you had to create a new template and make it into a vBA module and activate it on your pages. If that didn't work try adding index or your vBA page name/URL into the Page Deployment box. Sorry, I'm bad at writing documentation.

I tried what you suggested by renaming the VBA index to the default of cmps_index.php then placing in the forum folder along with the forum index.php.

I corrected the full URL to VbA in vbCMPS Options in Admin CP.

Still Loading....

Both adv_index & index were included in the page deployment areas. Im not sure why it still doesnt work :s

I'm disappointed after upgrading to Pro only to find out that the smilies cannot be controlled.

1. I do not want the smilies random. I have ~80 smilies and it's a real pain to locate the one I want.

2. I only want certain smilies to appear. I DO NOT want Over-sized smileys to be available to my members in the shout box.

What's the point of having a smiley button if I can't control them? We can just go back to the Lite version and type the shortcut.

Anyway.....just an FYI to those upgrading for the smilie feature.

There's really nothing wrong with Inferno Shoutbox - It works as promised really AND the light version is FREE ---- AND IF YOU CAN'T READ - It's marked as https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2011/01/24.gif Not Supported.....

On the PRO version - the only thing I see is that people (myself included of course) wants a whole slew of new features... And edits to the current application - which I happen to think is FABULOUS!

For instance - those of you complaining about the "annoying" reload graphic that reloads every so often - It's not a bug - but part of the original design I suppose - What you want is a fix for something that isn't broken :)

Anyway - my suggestion (as I'm a fan of Inferno Technology modifications) is to TRY ANOTHER SHOUTBOX - there are a couple options already on vB.org - you may want to try those and stop all the bellyaching :D

Just a thanks to those people who understand the situation - we ARE a small company, and it IS difficult for us to support a lot of hacks at once - there was someone helping us out, but he is not able to access the internet (and hasn't been for a few months)

The threads referred to as beign unanswered ARENT about problems with the software, but about people requesting NEW features or for us to write the mcode to do things the software wasn't designed to do.

I can assure you all that there isn't one person who has had a problem getting the pro shoutbox to work that has come to the forums and not received help.

Unfortunately due to time constraints we CAN'T add everything people request immediately - unfortunately some people see it as their right once they pay for a product such as this to DEMAND that we tailor it to their individual needs, and it's just not reasonable.

Please remember this simple request - if you wouldnt expect it from something you bought from a store - don't expect it from us.

If you buy any piece of software, then call the developer demanding to know how to make it do something that *it can't do* without editing or adding code - theres no way they would do it. Thats a huge company, how can you accept that from them, and not a company with much more limited resources?

We do the best we can, we update our products as often as possible, any bugs are fixed ASAP, and we note down peoples suggestions for future versions.

To those with a problem, you can also post your opinions in the testimonials part of our forum - anyone unsure whether to buy can read those as well. Any product will have its supporters and detractors. We're fortunate enough that out of our hundreds of customers, lots of them have left positive testimonials, while there are remarkably few negative ones.

After trying the demo you went onto the Inferno website, checked the feature list and bought the item to then complain that you're smileys are too big for users in the shoutbox?

If you don't want users to have large smileys then don't have them on your board! You say theres no point in having a smiley button if you can't control them, last time I checked theres an option to turn it off.

Also, there is an option to limit the number of smileys shown, if there are too many in the box and its throwing the shoutbox window out the viewing area, common sense tells you to limit the number of smileys that appear, until a fix is made.

Eitherway there might be a bug, do you honest think you are going about this the right way? Normal people use the support forums to suggest that in the next version some more smiley control would be nice, and also there is a problem where smileys are throwing the shoutbox window out the viewing area. Do you honestly think going onto the vBulletin forums flaming the product and shouting to buyers beware is going to get you anywhere?

The pro version of this product is supported and threads aren't ignored, I have seen them all, nobody doesn't receive help and the only threads not answered by staff are feature request threads, which aren't ignored either. I don't see a post in your name saying there is a bug and if you went about this the right way I'm sure it could have been resolved by now.

We are asking because there is no instructions how to get it working as a module when your vba installation isnt in the same folder as the forum. I had Pro from the beginning :)

To edit shouts is quite simple people.

Click on the shout you wish to edit and a little box appears at the top and you can edit it, or delete it :)

Quite a good little system, you dont have the buttons in the way.. :D

double clicking, single clicking, /prune...nothing deletes the shoutbox messages for me, and this is essential. vBshout competes with Skype in my forum application for chat duties, and Skype is free (but it's a big download and installation, registration, etc.).

So I must click uninstall. Thanks for vBshout nontheless. It's the simplest, easiest shoutbox to install that I've tried.

Just to let you know, it IS illegal - Using copyrighted code without the permission of the author (which you would be doing) is illegal.

Take a look at the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) for more information.

We collate websites using this, and periodically file DMCA notifications to their webhosts, which at the very least results in removal of the mod, and often leads to the hosting being cancelled without any refunds (DMCA violations are against almost all hosts TOS)

So the people who take the risk, usually end up regretting it - They lose more money from cancelled hosting than they would from just buying the mod.

The new version, with about 3x as many features, will likely be encoded in any case =)

I didn't bother with the lite version, went right for Pro... wow! Install was SO easy, (two minutes max!) and it only took one template edit to get the shoutbox showing on all pages! Thanks for a great product, my members are going to love the surprise when they wake up :)

If you are using version 3.7 this is a fix. I applied to to the pro version but the following should apply to lite.


Make sure your shoutbox is set to on before doing the following.
If you go into the "settings" table and sort by product. You will find a product called _inferno_shoutbox. Int he column called "value" you will find the words array. They dont belong there. You will need to replacement them with their proper #'s.
For editor tools use the following #'s. Add them up to get the total value # you need to put in depending on what options you want on. I use 127.
1 => 'Bold',
2 => 'Underline',
4 => 'Italic',
8 => 'Colours',
16 => 'Fonts',
32 => 'Clear',
64 => 'Smilies',
For bbcode use the following #'s. Add them up to get the total value # you need to put in depending on what options you want on. I use 639.
1 => 'Allow Basic BBCode',
2 => 'Allow Color BBCode',
4 => 'Allow Size BBCode',
8 => 'Allow Font BBCode',
16 => 'Allow Alignment BBCode',
32 => 'Allow List BBCode',
64 => 'Allow Link BBCode',
128 => 'Allow Code BBCode',
256 => 'Allow PHP BBCode',
512 => 'Allow HTML BBCode'
You will also need to manually input your usergroups. Here you put in the usergroup #'s seperated by the usergroups. Example 4,8,195,1,3
Now go into your vbulletin admin CP > vbulletin options > vbulletin options > backup / restore settings. Please note this is not on the drop down menu its to the left of it.
Now export your vbshout settings and then reimport them. This is how we fixed it our board. I can not guarentee this will work for you but feel free to ask questions.

No your custom style needs to be updated, your custom style probally gives tons of errors. You should do a template comparison and update it.

Make sure your shoutbox is set to on before doing the following.
If you go into the "settings" table and sort by product. You will find a product called _inferno_shoutbox. Int he column called "value" you will find the words array. They dont belong there. You will need to replacement them with their proper #'s.
For editor tools use the following #'s. Add them up to get the total value # you need to put in depending on what options you want on. I use 127.
1 => 'Bold',
2 => 'Underline',
4 => 'Italic',
8 => 'Colours',
16 => 'Fonts',
32 => 'Clear',
64 => 'Smilies',
For bbcode use the following #'s. Add them up to get the total value # you need to put in depending on what options you want on. I use 639.
1 => 'Allow Basic BBCode',
2 => 'Allow Color BBCode',
4 => 'Allow Size BBCode',
8 => 'Allow Font BBCode',
16 => 'Allow Alignment BBCode',

Now go into your vbulletin admin CP > vbulletin options > vbulletin options > backup / restore settings. Please note this is not on the drop down menu its to the left of it.
Now export your vbshout settings and then reimport them. This is how we fixed it our board. I can not guarentee this will work for you but feel free to ask questions.

Its in the database. If you have phpmyadmin you can edit the database from there.

You got it wrong, you have to type it in "grouptitle" FIELDS not "Add search conditions (body of the "where" clause):"

You can find it a little further down. Type it into the same row, to the right of the word "LIKE" in the "value" box.

Personally, I'd advise against installing a shoutbox or chatroom until you become more familiar with vbulletin, as these items can seriously affect your site's performance.

It would have been ok if I were able to prevent certain usergroups from using it but all I can do is ban a user after he joined which isn't enough. I am getting a lot of hate posts in the box and I can do nothing about it!

I still have the template edited the way you guys wanted.

I just said it works on one of my sites on the same SERVER we r renting. so its not our server. It's working perfectly fine on one of our sites.

All the red links in that screen are usually grey, it's really weird...and the background is usually a gradient but it turns it blue/white. I've tried re installing a few times, it's odd.

I disabled the "show reply information" through the chat box. As the chatbox displayed private/non-public thread names. Other people just saw it.

So far my users love this, however, they were a little bummed to know that they are unable to view a 'chat history' where they can view previous shouts. An ability to Edit/Delete user shouts would be nice and the ability to prune individual messages and messages for a specific time period. If these items were added that would be great.

So after, I added this in my Center Column, but it screwed up my whole page because it made the width of the module too wide and the rest of my center modules were showing underneath the whole website. Also all my Right Columns were showing underneath the website.

Can someone please just tell us simple how to make this into a Module for CMPS, I know it's doable and someone has done it. Cmon just tell us!!! Thanks.

Anyone figure out the whole percentage sign (%) freezing the shout box problem? It's actually a problem across all the vBShout releases..that no one has cared to fix.

Happen on both of my forums so far. No matter what version of vBShout I use let it be the first one or newer ones when you type the % sign it freezes the box and you have to refresh the whole page. I appreciate you replying so early. This is huge issues on my forum especially it's automotive related and links are posted frequently and a lot of links contain the % sign in them. Thank you.

Hmm very strange, i know when we used a VPS we never had any problems, even when we were using a more server intensive version of the shoutbox.

A new version of the shoutbox pro using AOP to massivley reduce server load will be released in the next day or two, but i don't think we'll be making a new lite version any time soon unfortunately.

Occasionaly people do have issues with the shoutbox server load, but that's almost exclusivley on shared hosting.

If you throw me a PM on the itech site, i'll try to get you hooked up with a test copy of the new version, if it runs ok on your server you can purchase it, if not, you can delete it =)

Hey guys, sounds like two separate issues here - the first seems like it's being caused by the shoutbox being updated without being uninstalled first, the second sounds like it's being caused by missing files.

Can i ask you to completely remove the shoutbox from your server, then to try installing 2.5.0 from scratch and see if that works? If not could you head over to the support forums (a link is in the main mod post) So we can keep track of all the support in one place?

ovnnet - uninstall the shoutbox, remove the files from your server, then reupload and reinstall the new shoutbox. After this hit ctrl+f5 on your page to refresh the javascript. Also *points to the main post* You'll get support etc much easier if you *use the support forums*

Theinsanemaniac, there isn't really an easy way to do this. but one of the features (low level logging) tracks edited shouts. Unfortunately the lite version doesn't show you *who* edited the shouts, but that is a feature which will be in the pro version by tomorrow for users such as yourself having issues like thise :)

And InsaneManiac, there's a link in the main post which will show you what pro has, unfortunately we won't be adding the feature to lite. :)

Just an update to this; looking into this more, it DOES show the person who edited/deleted, but not who shouted it in the first place - this is the feature that will be added to the pro version.

So to summarize - Low level logging IS a lite feature. It will show who PERFORMED the action, but not the owner of the shout the action is performed on. (This is a pro-only feature)

Anyone who recieves the "Loading..." message, please check the following:

1. All shoutbox templates are reverted - We've found several users had not done this, they had customised templates from earlier versions causing this one to break.
2. Upload -all- files and overwrite to ensure everything is upto date.
