To do list:
*use forums/categories/subforums for your auctionhouse.
high bidder userid -> username

add buyer name
fix pm formatting

*hot auctions on main < - Available with addon (wont be packaged in vbay)
admin editing auctions
*set up for use with forum commenting.
*fix amount of days an auction can be posted (more than 2 char)
ability to prune old auctions
make sure buy it now is using buy it now price, not bid.
allow admin ability to specify bid/buyitnow/both overrides.

Features:
Full BBCode support.
Specification of everything, Money Auction length ECT.
Image uploader for auctions.
Closed auction section.
3 auction types, bid, buy it now, or both.


To install
Upload files, and import product as usual
Make a new usergroup and call it the sellers usergroup, do what you want with this group (allow people to request addition maybe?)
Go to vbulletin options and into vbay, set the usergroup id of the sellers group you just made.


To upgrade
re upload all files
import new product
REVERT YOUR TEMPLATES

A suggestion: although the auctions have a fixed end time, perhaps make it more like a traditional auction - item sells when the bidding stops. So only close the auction if no bids have been recorded in the last say 10 minutes. so the end time will be either the original end time, or 10 minutes after the last bid which ever is later. Sniping on a community forum isn't very community minded ..

I also suggested in another thread a one bid auction. It is kinda like a "Buy It Now", except the buy it now price goes down by a certain value every time period until a reserve or base price is reached. First bidder wins - rather than bidding up a product, the potential buyer has to really judge what they are willing to pay and then put their money down before someone else does. It also makes it impossible for a dodgy seller to get one of his mates to bid on an item to increase the price. This would be useful for when a seller knows what he is willing to accept, but is unsure of the actual value of what he is selling. This suggestion however is low, low down on my list of what I'd want - you're on the money so far.

This is an AWESOME Idea!!

I would like to request that there is two options.

One for actual dollar amounts, and one for fictional funds.

For example there are many online games that have unique or hard to find items that are sometimes auctioned on forums for ingame items. Having something like this to be able to use on the forums is an amazing possibility! :)

Different Currency
Possibility to let the Trader pay for the auction (percent from the highest bit bit) for example if the auction ends at 100 $ and he has pay 3% to the auction hous he has to pay 3 $
Possibility of the evaluation
Payment over paypal, ccbill etc.

WHen using anyoptions in the AdminCP, upon accepting it redirectes to vbay.php rather than vbayadmin.php. To fix this redirect, I did a search and replace in the vbayadmin.php file on "Vbay" for "VbayAdmin" (matching the case and including the quotes as part of the search string) and also 'Vbay' for 'VbayAdmin' (same as above, but only single Quotes.

But then I get other errors:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function ParseInputs() in vbayadmin.php on line 213

If I comment out the 2 lines which have calls to ParseInputs() it partially works - I can add new categories and delete categories but if I try to rename a category, I end up with a blank names.

I'm sure Blaine has a bit more to add to it yet..

As yet there is no notification of an auction completing for either the buyer or the seller and no way of telling that the auction has finished except the "Days" is a '.' (period) rather than a remaining time.

As for ebay suing you, they get very ansy and all legal like over anything to do with auctions that rhymes with their name, a name change may be a good idea.

The reason you get page not founds errrors is because the form process is for Vbay.php and whilst your in the admincp area, if that isn't there then it won't work.

I'm not sure how to fix this bug but hopefully I have given someone an idea on how to fix it and that they can produce a fix soon.

I used this code in my lotto script to display the lotto thats has passed you might be able to use this to show the days and time left till a item finishes.

then you would put a output like

$result_lastlottowinners[winningdate];

As you might have 2 dates in the database for the item being sold like date added and end date you would do some thing like this

$itemenddate = $date_started-$date_end;

You nned to comment out the two lines which have the call to ParseInputs in the vbayadmin.php. Search for ParseInputs and put "//" at the start of the lines. See posts on page 5 for more info.

There are still issues even if you fix these errors - you're probably best off waiting for the next release ...

Bear in mind that the admincp stillhas issues even with these fixes - you can't rename a category - only add and/or delete

I think the Welcome to vbay me renamed to Welcome to <forumsname auctions> or whatever to where the end-user can have the ability to rename that section and the Welcome to needs to have the ability for a end-user to
edit this than to have to do it in the xml product file. So add a section in the Management area in the admincp is my idea on that.

1. Ability to brand their own Auctions area, as vbay can get someone into trouble perhaps later down the line as you know the US Laws do suck (no more online gambling as an example)

2. Fully editable from the admincp is more ideal all in all instead of this:

1. photo & multiple photo uploads, (most users are not HTML savvy) and,

I understand that, but the idea is to make it ALL centralized in a mod to where a person doesn't have to go from option to option within a forums back-end right? I know all of this is in the beginning stages now just throwing my options out there to make it seem more reasonable to edit and all within one Options area you know ;). Especially this hack here has a HUGE potential if the whole community comes together on this!

I have several questions:

1. The auction although you put the days, it is not closed, it continues working.

2. The salesman never leaves well, leaves usuary number 1 of the forum, that is to say, the one that registry first.

Suggestion: If the user currently viewing an auction has placed a bid - it should at least show what their highest bid was...

Hiya Blaine

Installed and can't make out what to do to see a test auction. Also a strange, distorted setup for the page on one of the options available on the home page.

Since I am not a coder, I have disabled the hack on my board but will leave it in place for future upgrades.

I like the idea and could certainly use it. Only wish I could be of more help in setting it up. Will keep an eye on progress.

Hmm, i just checked the file and it has the right template as long as you downloaded the regular vbay.zip

Maybe make sure all the templates with vbay_ are reverted

well i have like tons of traffic that goes to my website everyday and nothing have yet occur, but like you said "do your homework" is a good idea too...

if you dont mind can i make/mod the script so i can upload images to the site myself, it is very simple to be done from point of view. If that is fine with you then i am going to mod or tweach the script to a notch.

To remove the address requirement - edit vbay.php, search for and delete or comment out:

if that doesn't work, you could probably set a default address by adding:

Trying to think of ways to stop sniping on these auctions, one was to have the auction end time automagically extend by x minutes if a bid is placed in teh last x minutes, andother may be to have an optional randomise option which randomises the end time within a period, say the last hour.

Do you think you'll add an "Autobid" feature so a user can bid their highest, but it it only post as high a bid as needed?
