Installed, and running it in admin-only mode now.

I just seem to have trouble with my thumbnails. Only a red X shown. In the database, the thumbdata field is empty. I tried taking a peek at the vbaytn.php page, but saw nothing out of the ordinary in there.

Also tried rerunning the vbaytn page with the simple_reset option for the specific item, but no luck with that either.

Any pointers? I tried turning on logging to file in order to hopefully get more info, but nothing there, either :(

Edit: Some nice extra features I'd love:

- Easily adjust the address fields. Took me quite some time to manually edit out everything to suit my needs.
- Ability to adjust an auction as long as no bids were made yet.
- Subcategories
- Ability to add displayorder to categories
- Starting price should be possible to bid while no bids made yet (I suspect I can handle this myself)
- Move thumbnails and images to the filesystem, or better support for galleries

Other than that, works fine for now, with the exception of the thumbnails not shoiwng up.

Edit2:
Tried with a different picture, and that worked fine. Maybe it's only due to my first image being .bmp? Will have to test a bit more later.

Edit3:
When the bmp image was converted to JPG, the thumbnail showed up. I ended up removing bmp from the allowed image types.
I also managed to hack the mod a little so it is now possible to actually bid the startprice rather than the startprice + inc only (if you want to do this yourself, edit vbay.php and look for:

Change to:

I *think* that does the trick, though I might have made a template change as well. Sorry for not being more clear than that, but I've been editing and tidying up the code and adjusting it for my personal needs (which, due to being virtual items included removing all references of shipping and external payments, were quite substantial).

Should you be trying this and my solution turns out not to be complete, please let me know and I will see if I can find the rest.

I also am trying to see if I can finish up the BuyOut option, which does not work as intended atm (i.e. if I create an auction with a startbid of 1, a reserve of 10, a buyout of 100 and an increment of 1, it's possible to straight away after creation hit buyout. The closing price then will be 2 (or 1 after the change above), rather than 100, and you'll see a message stating the reserve was not met).

Which ensures the price will equal the buyout price. Crude, but it works. I'm playing with the idea of adding another field to the database called BuyOutUsed for items bought with buyout.

Left would be automatically closing an auction as soon as the regular bidding price equals the buyout price.

Quick revision to my edit in post 1523.

One of my users found that someone had been able to bid less than the starting price, and it's due to me having been sloppy.


And another edit further down. Look for:

I intended this to work and only insist the price + inc would be required after an initial bid was made. After all, if you're the first bidder on Ebay, you perfectly well can make an offer equal to the quoted startbid.

But my fix was incomplete. When there were no bids, it would be possible to bid whatever one liked. EVEN if that price was below the start price.

Luckily, the fix is also easy:

Just an fyi, depending on where you live there might be regulations regarding running online auctions on your website. I'm not trying to scare anyone away, just saying do your homework, especially if your auctions start getting alot of traffic.

for some reason if you use the "buy it now" before the "reserved" amount is hit; it says you didnt win it with a pm?? and if you do win it it send the winner your address when its a paypal- shouldnt it send a paypal request?

I use it on 3.8.4, and without trouble.

The coder expressed he does not have money to upgrade to VB4, so he most likely will not be porting the mod. Version 2.0 is due to be released soon, though.

I installed this on my 3.8.4 vB and it worked great for 3 auctions I recently posted. The problem is now that the auctions are over where did all the information about the auctions go? There is nothing listed that shows I even had an auction posted, no email to me telling who the winner was and for how much, nothing. Can anyone help?

I have one question i could not find an answer to, (so many pages)

When i create the usergroup "Sellers" and approve the "Sellers" usergroup to post auctions

it still wont let that group sell, it says "Sorry, you need to be a seller to be able to sell anything! Click HERE to request a sellers account. Thank you." but i have already put my "test" account in the usergroup.........

Sorry about #3, what i mean is if a user goes to "category section" there is a "-3" under how many auctions are available under that category.

Example:

Name -------------- items

Toys & Hobbies ---- -3

This occurred when i deleted some auctions from this category.

Thank you for that tip, I just installed on VB 3.8.6 and vbay is at least functional.
However I have run into another issue, when trying to sort auctions by time,price,or anything I get a database error
SELECT * FROM vbay_items` where completed='0' AND catid = '1' ORDER BY `completetime` DESC LIMIT 0, 10;

Is this being caused by another rogue ' mark?

I now have this installed but it seems to be creating more questions regarding ease of use.

Why can't we put in figures with decimal points?
How can we incorporate auctions into threads?
Can we create a banner highlighting random auctions?
Can auctions be ended by the lister?
Theres no option for more than one of the same item. (multiple copies)

This is a great idea but it needs to work. We're using Geodesic Solutions which does the same thing and does work. Rather than writing a mod for this it might be less work and more reliable to come up with an updated and effective bridge.

PS: If there really was a reliable plugin/addon for vB4.2.0 then I think that would be just great, and full marks to Blaine for trying to develop one, but given the complexities of running/designing such a thing I can't see that happening any time soon.

Categories are going to be in your AdminCp --> Settings --> Options --> Look for Vbay at bottom, then double click
