I just noticed that inputting say, 3 tag catagories in the tag search box - will not call up all threads with those tags. :confused:

That doesnt seem like full tag functionality to me.. (like you can do on You Tube for instance, search for a selection of tags like "rolling stones' 'angie' 'live') :up:

Have I misunderstood how that tag search works or is this a limitation of the existing software, or is my Zoints SEO not functioning fully? :eek:

what we all need and is not in current verson is:

- search thread by more than one tag
- have more tag categories per forum(groups) basis
- have better special charset option (for forein languages)

I think the main thing which needs to be added is a scan through the threads where it picks most commonly used words so as to get more tags... Otherwise I do love this mod oh so much!

I figured out how to increase the amount of words and characters per tag. Find the includes/class_zointstags.php and edit the numbers in red:

This is itself is used as a SEO plugin you can directly install the plugin without having to use any other plugin :)

Well there is a problem, not sure if I did something wrong. I disabled the proper "automatic template" in plugin manager, then manually did the template edits as explained in the readme.

For one thing, there is nothing about tags in the search drop down in navigation menu.

The links under /forum/tags/tagname do not get rewritten by vbseo.

Sure, you can move it whereever you want as long as it stays on the page.

On a tag by tag basis, you can add information about that particular tag for even better search engine rankings (content is king after all). There is a default description and it can of course be turned off if so desired. But I think it's cool and it should help forums a lot :)

Quick question, when I go to my http://domain.com/tags without and ending slash it ads the www to it such as, http://www.domain.com/tags to it making me lose my login and since I'm logged in under http://domain.com.

When I go to http://mydomain.com/tags/ with the ending slash it works fine. How can I fix this so mydomain.com/tags will work for me?

When I try to generate old tags I get one of the links that appears on the cloud page with the "0". I can't delete it and it says There are 0 threads listed for "".

It seems to work, but I do have one little problem.

The Zoints Thread Tags (automatic template edits) plugin hooked in at parse_templates interferes with Kerry-Anne's bottom navbar hack, I imagine it would be the plugin that is hooked at parse_templates hook as well. It shows the normal navbar, but not the customized one...

This is the code for that plugin in Kerry-Anne's product.

Zoints Tag pages don't really show the user info anywhere other than using exactly the same template layout as your forum display pages (if you have that zoints tag option set to 'yes') - whatever shows on your forumdisplay will show on the zoints tag pages listing threads.
Mentioning the number of posts also gives the impression you have a general vbulletin layout query rather than anything to do with the Zoints Tags plug in discussed here :S

So I click on that and it takes me to the zoints tag search but supplies the wrong search and gives back the search for

still using Zoints Tags for a few days and found some bugs:


my Tag cloud gets a mystery last entry 0 (null). But only on my production server (Debian sarge stable). Have done some debugging and found out weird behavior in function array_slice when the second parameter is greater than available tags in db. Fixed it by replacing

$tags = array_slice($tags, (($page - 1) * $vbulletin->options['zointstags_showtags']), $vbulletin->options['zointstags_showtags']);

with

softdeleted threads still shown in threadsearch for all users. My quick fix:

not the correct vbulletin way (displaying soft deleted threads with trash can for admins and mods, hide them from guests...), but it works for me.
build some AJAX Tag suggest for the tag fields. Works like the username suggest in membersearch and shows similar tags. If anyone interested in, I can post the code here.

I hope someone can help me. I have Zoints Tags installed and its working fine.

What I would actually like is for the tags to be shown at the bottom of the the first post of the thread and not at the top of the thread. Basically, so they are part of the first posting.

Is this possible, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Searching for tags from the quick search drop down menu shows me the error
"Please specify some words or valid user names to search on. There were no matches for those that you specified."

Although the keyword is present in the tag cloud it gives that error. If i do a advanced search then it functions properly. However tag search from quick search menu doesnt function for me.

Hi everyone. I have vb 3.6.5 and the latest version of this mod. I have a small issue that maybe one of you vb gurus can help me. When this mod is activated, any time that I want to moderate "individual posts" (like copy a single post or move a couple of posts from a topic), when I click the go button, I am taken to an error page of "Invalid Action Specified".

When I disable this plugin, I can move, copy, delete individual posts as normal.

How can I fix this so that I can use this mod?

The only other issue I had was that the cron directory wasn't there, but I added it.

Everything else seems to work fine, tags show in the search tags cloud, but when I search for tags, thats when I get the 'No input file specified' error on a white page.

I found a bug (not sure if has been mentioned before) since I did not read through all 39 pages. If I have a thread under moderated status, it does not show up under the regular forum because it is awaiting approval. However, if I search for a tag that has been added to the moderated thread, that thread is displayed. Well, the title of the thread is displayed. It will not let you see the whole thread, but in my opinion it should not even let you see the title.

Also, this mod works fine for me together with vbSEO.

I have had this issue since the release of this version on vb3.5 & 3.6 can anyone else duplicate the problem?

When Zoints tags are enabled, vbs standard inline per thread moderation will take you to a link invalid error.

As is stands right now, I either have to give up the per post inline moderation or the zoints tags.

This is not working for me after I upgraded to 3.6.7 and re-upgraded the zoints plugin (1.2.1)

First, although forum display and showthread display are both enabled in admincp, they do not show up on showthreads, and they show up on forum display on bottom instead of top, even though I selected above posts.

New version looks great -- especially the area for the small article at the top of the page and the support for other languages.

Currently, I need help with two items:

1) I have some tags that I want to delete from every thread that they are attached to. I don't want to delete them one at a time from each thread, but I am willing to run a SQL statment for each tag to delete. Could you give the SQL to delete a single tag from every thread that it is on?

2) On a related note, I want to change a certain number of tags to improve the SEO. For example, if my tag was Photos and I have a motorcross site, I might want every instance of Photos to say "Photos of Motorcycles" Could you give the SQL to change a tag also?

Two items that I noticed that I would like to see as part of the configuration for the next version so that a site can change them are:
1) the length of words allowed
2) the number of words allowed per tag -- I really want to make this four words per tag rather than three

But more importantly right now is the SQL I mentioned above... :)

If you want a cloud at the top of forumdisplay, there is an option for that in the admincp options we provide. If you want it on forumhome, that will be made available in the next release.

If so, you can use the attached extension for Zoints Thread Tags 1.2.1 which will give you that ability via additional options in the AdminCP.

No support will be provided for this extension - if it doesn't work for you - I'm sorry. This extension is not endorsed or supported by Zoints. I simply built this for myself, and am sharing it.

Note that any future upgrade to Zoints Thread Tags will erase many of these edits and they will have to be redone.

Hopefully Zoints will like this idea and incorporate these changes into their next version!

My only suggestion is to double check. Download the .xml file for this mod and load it into a text editor - you should see the line I have referenced if you do a search through the XML file.

But is it not possible to search for a list of tags in the advanced search.
I mean for example search all the threads wich have Tags "aaa" and "bbb".

If i search for two or more tags at the same time i always get an empty search result.

Without this the whole "tag search" thing it is quite senceless for the forum users, i think.

I wanted to share how I share the Zoints Thread tag mod on my NFL forum, maybe it will help others.

I run a NFL Football Forum at GridironFans.com, and we pride ourselves in bringing all the latest NFL news to the members of our community. We have one forum (unfortunately I am limited to being able to post news in one forum because of the current setup of the vbAdvanced portal system) where I post all the NFL news. The forum is closed to posting new threads to everyone except for a group called "NFL News Reporters". When this group posts news they are required to use a post icon for the team they are posting about and then they are required to enter topic tags. Now this is where I differ from the current setup most of you know.

Most of you are used to this field:

Now....once a story is posted they get grouped into the tags used. So say I want to check out the latest headlines for a particular team. On my site people can click on my custom navbar and choose the team, division, conference and other tags (League News, NFL Draft, Injury News, Legal News, NFL Rumors, Top Stories, Transactions, Scores). If I want to check out the latest headlines for the Bills I would click on "Buffalo Bills" (http://gridironfans.com/forums/tags/index.php/bills/) under the AFC/AFC East menu and it brings up all the NFL news posted for the Bills.

I am hoping that one day I can find a way to:


Be able to view the post icons when I sort news per tag
Be able to have a RSS feed for each pre-determined tag
Have the story from the tag be displayed in a portal page as opposed to directly going to the forum


If anyone has any questions about my setup please feel free to ask. If you want to use this system and create your own pre-determinded tags then feel free to use the code. And if anyone can help me reach my goals of adding those three features to the current tag setup, please let me know!

I hope people found this post informative and helpful. I am greatful to the people at Zoints for their great modification. I was using a different tag mod before and if fell woefully short to the great work done with this system.

First one, is it possible (has someone come up with a solution) to have the list of tags on forumdisplay "weighted", ie more popular tags are larger, as is the case with the regular tags cloud?

And, is there a way to have the popular tags cloud on the forumhome yet?

I've read and searched through this monster of a thread and not seen a solution to either of these requests/tweaks.

I will let the engineers know of that request as I am sure it wouldn't be difficult since that style is used elsewhere in Zoints. I can't guarantee anything, but I can also see the use some might have for that and hopefully it's doable.

In our next release, having the popular tags cloud on forumhome (and with popular ones more weighted) should be a reality as I've seen it on a test release we have.

It's kind of like the 'Different Strokes for Different Folks' as I can't imagine every forum needing it, but I think most forums find it useful and depending on how much the users use it, it can become quite a nice indexing system for them and future members versus using just the search system. If the tags are accurately used, it builds a link from one to the next that if a user was interested in one thread, he might be interested in another thread although he was able to find it through the tags system much more easily.

Think about a person interested in dogs on a forum, they can search for "dogs" and get all the threads with the word "dogs" on it. That's great of course, but what about a thread talking about German Shepherds where the word "dogs" was never mentioned, if tagged with it, a user could find it through that link better than the search system.

At this time, making automatically generated tags in the way you mention is not possible. You can go back and tag old threads, but that's about it.

As for tag settings for vBSEO, there is quite a few threads on network.zoints.com so I would advise you to go read through some of those to see if you can find a solution that satisfies. Frankly, I forget the various suggestions I used to get my forum's tag system to display the way I wanted so I don't want to lead you down paths that I am unsure where they go to.

Additional Functionality for Zoints Thread Tags

Would you like to give additional users or user groups the ability to add or delete tags in areas which they don't moderate?

If so, you can use the attached extension for Zoints Thread Tags 1.2.1 which will give you that ability via additional options in the AdminCP.

How can i get rid of the Search Tags box?

When i add a tag i see the 2 boxes Tags: with an add button how can i delete the extra one?

To get rid of the search tags block on the navbar, I don't believe there is a really easy answer to that. I am afraid you have to refer to your readme file included with the download package on how to disable automatic template edits and the corresponding manual edits that go with them.

I recognize your request, I believe you're SteveRobWhatever, or something like that at the support forums. Anywho, both the suggestion and the bug fix have been mentioned to the engineers in the past so hopefully it gets corrected in the future.

I've installed it too, running great so far.

But is it not possible to search for a list of tags in the advanced search.
I mean for example search all the threads wich have Tags "aaa" and "bbb".

If i search for two or more tags at the same time i always get an empty search result.

Without this the whole "tag search" thing it is quite senceless for the forum users, i think.

I installed this with about 1000 threads already on my board. It would be helpful to be able to search for threads with no tags so I can tag them easily.
That doesn't perform well enough. I would like to be able to list all the untagged threads and then manually enter the tags but I would need a listing script.

djbaxter is correct in saying that the easiest way to do that and the only way we really have to do it is through the automatic tag generation. Other than recommending to recall the date you installed the system and going to each forum with using the display options to sort by the thread start date to try to find them all, I really don't know of a truly easy way to do it. If there is though, please let me know so I can help users in the future with the same request.

I have the same problem. the replacement just don't work with the ajax tag saving on showthread. On newthread.php and editpost.php they work!

Again any word on the next release. Users are going crazy messing up the tags index and I don't want to switch it off but I do want to enable only admin and moderator access to set tags for posts. Please help on this one as it has been asked for since 2006 :(

I am sorry, but I am bit confused about your post. In regards to a new release, right now Zoints Local is our number one priority but we do have a release that has been testing for quite some time, so once the engineers fix the problems we're aware of, we'll get it out to you as quickly as possible. In said release, we do have the option to limit by usergroup who can add and who can delete tags so hopefully we can get that out soon.

Obviously it's a bit self-explanatory to a degree, but since I was not one of the staff members who worked a terrible amount with the thread tags system, perhaps you're referencing something I have not been familiarized with yet. I suppose there might be some possibility if they share a database. But I would be pretty certain that it would require a lot of editing to make it inter-connected between two sites. I wanted to share how I share the Zoints Thread tag mod on my NFL forum, maybe it will help others.

I run a NFL Football Forum at GridironFans.com, and we pride ourselves in bringing all the latest NFL news to the members of our community. We have one forum (unfortunately I am limited to being able to post news in one forum because of the current setup of the vbAdvanced portal system) where I post all the NFL news. The forum is closed to posting new threads to everyone except for a group called "NFL News Reporters". When this group posts news they are required to use a post icon for the team they are posting about and then they are required to enter topic tags. Now this is where I differ from the current setup most of you know. .....

I would just like to thank SBlueman for this contribution and recommend it to other forums. I run a sports site as well and this has been a welcome addition that has quite a bit of use while being very simple to add and edit.

Hey people.....I figured out a way to have RSS feeds for your Tags! Read on:

I found Dapper.net (http://www.dapper.net) and it worked like a charm. All I had to do was do a small template edit to not show the "Sticky" text on sticky threads. Here is what I did:

Step 1: Edited out "sticky" from any sticky titles so when you went to the tag search page (example: Link to "Chiefs" tag on my site (http://gridironfans.com/forums/tags/index.php/afcwest/)) the word "Sticky" did not show up.

Step 2: Go to Dapper.net and register.

Step 3: Click on the "Content Owners" tab and select "Content Distribution".

Step 4: Enter your main domain name on the next page.

Step 5: On the next page, select "Create a Dapp"

Step 6: In the enter URL field, enter in the thread tag search link (example: http://gridironfans.com/forums/tags/index.php/chiefs/)

Step 7: Follow the steps from there (the site pretty much walks you thru it all) and enjoy!

To list all the news feeds on my site. I just switched hosts and the name servers are still propagating but they worked perfectly before and will work like a charm again. The only drawback is that the feed will only display the headline, but it's better than nothing.

I'm running vBulletin 3.6.8 and using this mod. I haven't noticed any problems with it, but I just went into my cPanel error log checking on something and found it FULL with nothing but errors related to this mod.

With the first part of your post, I can't guarantee it would be done in the future, but I will suggest it to the engineers for them to consider.

And with the second part, are you talking about the auto-generated tags? It could be done like you described perhaps, but it would probably add queries and thus slowdown for each time a thread is posted (as well as a lot of coding on your part I would imagine.) Really the goal of the current setup is to tag threads prior to Synergy and hope that it is a system used by yourself and your members enough where tagging threads in that manner isn't needed, as of course the ones created by the members are much more relevant.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know the tags system as well as some others, but unless I've overlooked that feature... the only way I know to add generated tags is through a submit process within the Zoints Tag Manager in the vB Admin CP.

The automatically generated tags process allows you to define certain words in a stop list (like and, but, of, etc) to strip out from the tags being generated. Even then though, the tags aren't going to be as relevant if done by your users.

Have you tried using the character replacement function in the options for Thread Tags? That is for replacements, not just adding new sets of characters so I don't know if it's really possible to do it for several languages (at least with using a standard, un-modified version.)

We actually do have that feature in a planned release, the ability to control by usergroup who can add tags as we certainly understand several admins had the same concern as you do. As for your problem, is this when you're trying to delete a tag via the tag box on show thread? If so, it should be an AJAX like delete.

I was wondering if there was any way to create RSS feeds from topic tags using the Zoints Thread Tag mod (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=127244) and if there was a way to view the thread results when you clicked on a tag with the threads in order by first post, not last.

I tried to create rss feeds using Dapper.net's (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1310781&postcount=661) service but of late it's not been working.

I also had another idea....is it possible to create a bbcode where you wrap any keywords in a post and it then becomes a link to that tag on your site? Say for example:

I really don't know of any easy (or hard way) to do that, although one may exist. I would simply just find all the threads tagged with phone and cell, and add the new tag of cellphone to it. I know that's tedious, especially if there are many tags, but that's what I would do if it was my forum.

I really couldn't tell you how to do that, it's a bit out of my forte, but I would suggest heading over to network.zoints.com and see if an engineer or someone else with that knowledge can't help you out if possible.

I hate to break it to you, but you're wrong here. Considering we just put out a release for Zoints Local (working on the feature laden one) and have an active support team that supports all of our products.... we are far from dead. Some have a problem if we can't solve a problem that plagues them and takes almost a personal offense to it, but Zoints Thread Tags is a product that works great for many communities and one we plan to continue to improve on for the future. It's no secret that we had a period of transition that was hard to bounce back from, but we pride ourselves on being honest and providing the best support we can. Dennis doesn't believe that we care about his issue, even though we have discussed the issue extensively in private, we just happen to not work at the pace he demands of. But if we could work faster and magically solve all issues, we certainly would as we understand the problems with modifications not being supported or developed any longer and we know how much we would personally like that from other developers.

Besides, I wouldn't be responding to you this quickly if this was a dead and forgotten issue.

maxicep, I would suggest asking over on the vB SEO forums. I know some have had that solution posted work for them, but I personally did not. I did an assortment of things (some posted on this thread or at our support forums and some on my own) but I really wouldn't be confident in relaying that back to you as I am pretty hazy on what I did. Being a vB SEO user as well, I know that there has been discussion about this in the past, so I would check to see what the group consensus on what to do is.

There is one modification (for the tags) posted at another vBulletin development forum (the name escapes me) but I am relatively certain I found it on a thread at vB SEO, so be on the lookout for that in particular.

Btracker doesnt look as good as Zoints for Vb to me, author doesnt use vB on its own page, demo really slow, blank page while clicking demo tags .. I bet Zoints is far much stable for vB.

Likely, it will be some time on that if you want the honest answer. But like I mentioned in the past to you, the engineers do want to solve that issue so more can use and enjoy the product, so hopefully when it is done we can get your feedback on if the solution worked.

I don't Know Why That Happens, is like if one of the Plugins when the Automatic Template Edits Plugin is Deactidated Avoids the Display of the Code. :( :confused:

And When the Plugin (Zoints Thread Tags (automatic template edits)) is Activated, then Most of the Hack Features are Displayed Twice (logical, I made the Template Edits), but I prefer to have the Manual Choice to Edit the Templates (I prefer the Tag Link in the "Quick Links" Dropdown Menu), and other Things, so I'm having the Trouble I Mentioned Above. :( :confused:

Hey Zoints I have found a bug while debugging Zoints Tags and requesting Tags:

There is always a 404error on the file cron.php, for exemple I click a tag:

http://<website>/forums/tags/news/

then when the page loads it try to request

http://<website>/forums/tags/news/cron.php?rand=66755 (wich produce the 404 error)

To note that I'm using the modrewrite option , I have tested of course with the by default system and I get always a 404 error but cron is called from /tags/ this time, I bet cron.php must be called on the forum root and not the tag root.

//note: If I go back to the standard write index.php?tag= and delete the .htacess rule, works fine cron.php is correctly called

Cool I just would like to say I got it fixed with this addon, this is not really Zoints Tags bug but a behaviour with the $cronimage relative path. Check this addon:

Would you mind opening up a support ticket with us so our engineers can see this in action? Personally I think a future tags system needs to have the ability to disable the template edits as an option in Thread Tags Options. But obviously it's a bit hard to fully comprehend your problem without seeing it action so open up a ticket when you get the chance.

As for question 2, I am not really sure to be honest.

RSS feed functionality is not currently a feature with Zoints Thread Tags, as mentioned in the past, it is something we plan to look at but it would likely require a good deal of work which is not possible at this point of time as we're nearing completion of our next version of Zoints Local.

Well, it seems as if at least one user has a problem with this, but I would suggest going to the plugin manager and deactivating "Zoints Thread Tags (automatic template edits)" and then manually do all the template edits you want to show. IF you do that, let us know how it works for you.

Interesting question SBlueman, I have got a quick look yet and found the url controling the icon link, this is in the template "threadbit" , the variable $thread[threadiconpath] takes the default posticon in zoints when it takes the custom one with forumdisplay, I think it has something to do with the SQL query loaded in index.php of zoints and the iconcache but not sure, well at least the patch must be made in the tags/index.php I'm almost sure, please let me know if you find a workaround I'm interested in patching this, I'll do the same if I'm finding a solution.

I'm experiencing a strange problem. When ever I click on "tags" and then on any of the pages at the bottom, it seems to log me out of the forum. My custom skin gets switched over to the default and I see the login widget on the right. However, when I click on any link taking me back to the forum, I'm all of a sudden logged into the system and have my theme back. Does that make any sense? Does this happen to anyone else? Thanks for any insight.

I found the problem: mod_rewrite was causing the the issue. Disabling it seems to have fixed the problem.

What can cause an error when I type some word in Russian/Cyrillics for example:
"мама"
I get a result:
"u043cu0430u043cu0430"
So I see in URL "/u043cu0430u043cu0430/"

As you see "u043cu0430u043cu0430" consists of four letter:
u043c -> м
u0430 -> а
u043c -> м
u0430 -> а

tag system is going to be default from vb 3.7. on.
If you are runging zoints tag and wish to switch to default tag system, please support my request with comment :) here
