Thanks for this great hack.
Just one request and that would be to allow the single removing of thanks by an admin OR moderator (if they have power in that forum) - I want to police this from being abused, but at the moment I only have the option of removing all the thanks from a post - and my mod team can't do anything!

If you mean like this: http://www.fiatforum.com/barchetta/115677-superspotters-barchetta-project-well-docs-done-17.html#post1276442
Then all you need to do is overwrite the "post_thanks_postbit_legacy" template with the "post_thanks_postbit" one :)

This is a great hack
I have this hack installed together with the 'link hiding hack' and it's working 100% but there is just one small add-on function i want this hack to do.
I want it to bump the thread when someone press thank you
How would i be able to do so ?
Too much code to add this urself I think + It will be very bad options leading to massives abuse or kiddies bumping old threads, not a good option at all for me

hello
tanks for your hack
but i have a problem.
i was installed this hack on my VB, but not last version of it. today I see my version of hacks and i see my version of this hack is old, then i install this last version in my VB 3.6.8
now i have post tancks menu in adminCP and i have the tank button but under the posts it shows only for example 5 people thanks for this good post and do not show the 5 user names,
the user names box is empty but near of it shows the number of thankers!
another prob is when i hit on Remove all the page refreshed but nothing happened!
please help me as soon as you can.

Hi! THanks for the hack. I have installed it and I have run into a small issue. My "thanked status" for the members is not in the right place. It is above the user info. (see attached)
I have a custom skin and a CMS on my board, so when I attempted to edit the postbit and postbit_legacy I did not have the "find:" phrase in the instructions, and I just placed the
$template_hook[postbit_userinfo_right_after_posts]
after the post count. Obviously that is incorrect. Is there another "landmark" that would help me get this thing in the right spot??
Thanks for your help.

Is there a way of hiding the thank you's so there not on show all the time.
So you would have to click to see who thanked.

I love this add-on and it works on all my styles except Detour. Any clues why not? I definately uploaded it to all the button files and even saw the theme on the page while the xml was loading.

That would be very useful! Somthing like:

Also, would it be possible BUMP a thread when a user clicks THANKS?

Just a note to say that the Post Thank You row under posts did not have the same thin, dark border that we have around our posts. To fix this, I changed the first bit of the post_thanks_postbit_legacy template from
<div style="padding:$stylevar[cellpadding]px 0px 0px 0px">
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%" align="center">to
<div style="padding:$stylevar[cellpadding]px 0px 0px 0px">
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
Which fixed it.

This is a much needed feature. I have one user that has taken it upon himself to thank every damn post on the board. This is not a situation where I can easily ban or reprimand him, but I sure would like an admin button to DUMP what he has done. That particular user has thanked 5,260 posts! :eek:

Has anyone done this (email notification?) I want it to!
I'd like to see this feature added too. I love this add-on (thanks Abe!), but as it works today people have no way of knowing when someone thanks them for an old post unless they go looking for it.

I ran it on both a user number and user name and it does absolutely nothing. It acts like it's processing, but the thanks are all still there.
User's Total Thanks: 5,275 :eek:
I advise caution before you put this on a big board! I have 3,497 pages of table data in post_thanks which apparently includes 105,886 thanks.
The users love it, but thats the problem. I have users who think it's their lot in life to thank every damn post on the board!
I really need to do a query on this thing, flush the toilet and start over.
Does uninstalling this hack empty the table?
Or, is this as simple as selecting the post_thanks table in PhpMyadmin, selecting all five fields and hitting the EMPTY button?

I have some serious issues with using this hack on a big board. I tried the truncating and that made a mess, so I restored my backup.
I tried uninstalling and that ends up timing out with a white screen on the admin control panel.
I tried reinstalling and now I'm sitting on a screen that says Importing Product, Please Wait...
It just sits there after showing: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: to infinity...
Maybe my board is too big? Posts: 243,952
As it sits now, I have the hack disabled and the post_thanks table did empty out after several attempts at uninstalling. Basically, I think there are time-out issues when doing the install/uninstall functions through admincp on a board of this size. As I said above, I have had this hack for a long time, but over that time, users have abused the function and put it into overload.
This is an excellent hack that is appreciated by the majority of users. Like as in anything else, 10% of the users will cause 90% of your trouble. The best resolution is to make sure that the REMOVE ALL thanks by a user function is working well.

This phrase:

Abe, nice work here :) . I'm looking to mod this so each post can only be thanked once. Is there already a conditional setup in your mod which checks for this or do I need to set one up? I imagine i would place this conditional within the function add_thanks() to exit if a post has already been thanked. Is there something placed within the $postinfo array already which I can use the conditional upon already or would I need to add that myself?

I had reputation disabled on my forum for a long time, with this hack active. I have just recently enabled reputation and I am wondering if it is at all possible to somehow convert currently "thanked" posts into reputation points?
My most thanked members are stuck with low reputation at this point you see.

Have you tried "Rebuild User Reputation" in AdminCP->Maintenance->UpdateCounters ?
This might do the trick, however i think you're SOL as the function add_scores adds the rep during the process when any post is thanked... since those posts have already been thanked rebuild user rep won't take that into consideration.
You might have to run a manual query

For some reason the thanks button does not show up in 3 of my skins, but it does on the other 3. I have completed all the template edits, and installed the images/buttons installs on all skins that use different image pathways. But on that note, not only is the button missing, but the alternate text is also not present.
Of worthy note, one of the skins it does not show up on is the vBulletin Blue Default.

I wanted to allow users to be able to give nominal rep, even if they couldn't give their full rep because of post # limitations. But when my users tried to rep after thanking, they were told they couldn't rep the same post twice.
I will wait for the guys at vBCredits to get everything done, then use their hide hack.
Nice idea, really, but just not implemented in a manner that suits my needs.

You might have to run a manual queryYea you're right the rebuild is fruitless. I assumed it would be possible with SQL queries, but I wouldn't know what SQL to run.

This is working great for me - very nice job Abe1. I think I found 2 small issues however although they're not really bugs...
If a has thanks, and thatpost is edited by that member (using the quick edit ajax method) when the edit is saved, the post_thanks_postbit template fails to re-load. After a page refresh it's there, howerever would be more in-line with vbulletin if this were re-loaded upon edit as well.
After a post is thanked, although the post_thanks_postbit template reloads, the post_scores_member_info template fails to reload resulting in the post's author's post-thanks info not being updated
Thanks!

Awesome it is my favorite mod :)
Installed and testing .... :up:
How does one get the graphic "Thanks" button to match our style, instead of being the standard default vBulletin colors?
Thanks ... :)
Regards,
Badger
Edit: Tested....
There's some kind of problem with Horizontal and Vertical postbit templates....
This phrase:
Appears under the UserName information etc, in the Horizontal post bit template, even when the mod is turned OFF. Ironically, it doesn't appear at all in the Vertical postbit template, whether the mod is turned OFF or ON. Anyone else notice this and have a fix? :confused:
Check your templates. Make sure the template hooks are there.
Couldnt find any info on this, but the users of our forum who uses Opera cant get this feature to work. Simply nothing happens when they click the button. It works fine in IE, FF, Safari, but not in Opera.
Are there any known issues with this hack and Opera? Or maybe it is Ajax in Opera?
First time hearing about this. If AJAX was turned off for a users, the hack should still work, but just refresh. I dont know what the problem would be though.
Thanks version 6.3
vBulletin 3.6.8 PL2
Is there a shell command line that can run the install/uninstall?
Try installing via FTP option.
It's been requested at my forum that we add a Post Fail button to ride along side of the [AJAX] Post Thank You Hack while keeping the Thanks hack. Does this inspire anyone?
Check out my post groan hack.
I just pruned a bunch of messages and everyone is pissed because it removed their thanks for those messages. Is there any way to have the thanks remain after a message is pruned?
Will look into it. I may make it an admin option to turn on and off.
I would add it to a hook 'post_thanks_function_can_thank_this_post_start' in 'can_thank_this_post'.
Add:
if ($postinfo['post_thanks_amount'] > 0)
{
return false;
}
I just have a question that I assume can only be answered here:
I had reputation disabled on my forum for a long time, with this hack active. I have just recently enabled reputation and I am wondering if it is at all possible to somehow convert currently "thanked" posts into reputation points?
My most thanked members are stuck with low reputation at this point you see.
Is this possible through any SQL queries or combination of recounters?
I'm sure it can be done but would need a php script to run the mysql so it can calculate correctly.
After update from 6.0 Gold to 6.3,
Box in bottom of post which show where thanks for this post not shown and also button of thanks !

OK, the members no longer seem to care about old thanked posts.
However I do have a strange conflict where hovertext doesn't reflect what reps people have.
Almost all reputation points are given via thanks and it seems no thanked posts are being reflected in the reputation hovertext, yet it still contributes points and green dots.
The only way I've found to compensate for this issue is rebuilding rep points every day. This is not a very desirable way to go about it though.
Anyone know why this could be happening?

I noticed I was getting style warnings - 1 for each post in showthread.
I narrowed the problem down to this Thank you mod.
It exists in the postbit_display_complete plugin:
if (can_thank_this_post($post, $thread['isdeleted']) && !thanked_already($post))
{
$display_thanks_image = '';
}
should be if (can_thank_this_post($post, $thread['isdeleted']) && !thanked_already($post))
{
$display_thanks_image = 'inline';
}
Having no value after display: throws up a warning error (in Firefox).
inline is the default which should be used to display the button normally.

I found that the thanks information in postbit was taking up a couple of lines and looked untidy.
So I changed the post_thanks_postbit_info template to :
<if condition="$post[userid]">
<div>$vbphrase[post_thanks_thanks]: Gave $post[post_thanks_user_amount_formatted], Got $post[post_thanks_thanked_times_formatted]</div>
</if>
Which while not grammatically quite as flowery, does the job using just 1 line.

I love the way that the thanks info is displayed in a separate box under the post. However, it was not being displayed with the same table border as the post itself.
I fixed this by editing post_thanks_postbit_legacy (or post_thanks_postbit if you use that style)
from (near the top) <table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
to<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
which now makes the thanks info look correct.

Here's a fix a member of my board came up with. Hope it helps someone:
"it seems that there were empty arrays (i.e. lists of items) being passed to the function that generated the warning message. Honestly, I have no idea where these arrays were coming from or whether it is even all right for them to be empty - but I've asked the function not to try to process such arrays in future.
See board/includes/functions_post_thanks.php
After line 182
//seems to be a problem when $thanks has no rows - so let's patch the problem
//I have no idea about the underlying causes of this problem.
if ($number_rows > 0)
{
//</SLB
foreach ($thanks AS $thank)
{
if ($cmpt<$number_rows)
{
$virg=",";
}
else
{

}
if (show_thanks_date($forumid))
{
$date_thank = vbdate($vbulletin->options['dateformat'], $thank['date'], true);
}
eval('$liste_user .= " ' . fetch_template('post_thanks_box_bit') . '";');

Thanks for the great MOD. :)
I just installed and did a few tests.
One thing I noticed is that if you delete a thread that contains posts that were given "Thanks", that user's Thanked count is not decreased.
For example, it will still say:
Thanked 2 Times in 1 Post
even when that 1 post has been deleted.
Forgive me if this has been asked before, but is there a fix or a workaround for this?

Abe,
I'm trying to get the postbit template to refresh as well upon thanking a post (in order to update the "Thanked 4 Times in 4 Posts" text...
Within post_thanks.js I have modified function thanks_add_done() by adding an additional fetch_object (to call the respective postbit) as follows:
function thanks_add_Done()
{
if (do_thanks_add.handler.readyState == 4 && do_thanks_add.handler.status == 200)
{
fetch_object('td_post_' + do_thanks_add.postid).innerHTML = do_thanks_add.handler.responseText;
fetch_object('post_thanks_box_' + do_thanks_add.postid).innerHTML = do_thanks_add.handler.responseText;
}
}
Unfortunately, I'm pretty new at JS so it doesn't work. Any ideas what I am doing wrong and how to get it to refresh the respective postbit?

Just create a simple plugin for hook location: post_thanks_function_post_thanks_off_end
Untested, but something like this:
$sql = $vbulletin->db->query_first("SELECT COUNT(post_thanks_votenum) AS qty FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "post AS post WHERE postid = " . $postinfo['postid'] . " AND qty < 3");
if ($sql['qty'])

return true;

Within the query, change the 3 to minimum quantity of times a post should be thanked before displaying, and I think it'll give you what you need.

I think I can explain that problem. In reputation.php, not only the reputation points of a user are updated, but also the reputationlevelid. That way, the reputation level of a user is updated instantly. You just give the reputation points, but do not update the reputationlevelid. So if a user gets 1000 reputation points by post thank you hack, but does not get any reputation the normal way, his reputationlevel will not update.
To fix this problem, a minor change to function add_thanks() is sufficent i think
if ($vbulletin->options['post_thanks_reputation'])
{
$vbulletin->db->query_write("
INSERT IGNORE INTO ". TABLE_PREFIX ."reputation
(postid, userid, reputation, whoadded, reason, dateline)
VALUES
('".$postinfo['postid']."', '".$postinfo['userid']."', '" . $vbulletin->options['post_thanks_reputation'] . "', '" . $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'] . "', '$vbphrase[post_thanks_thanked_post]', " . TIMENOW . ")
");
if ($vbulletin->db->affected_rows() != 0)
{
////////////////////////////////////////////////
// BEGIN FIX
////////////////////////////////////////////////
// Query copied from reputation.php
// Determine this user's reputationlevelid.
$reputationlevel = $vbulletin->db->query_first_slave("
SELECT reputationlevelid
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "reputationlevel
WHERE " . ($postinfo['reputation'] + $vbulletin->options['post_thanks_reputation']) . " >= minimumreputation
ORDER BY minimumreputation
DESC LIMIT 1
");
// I do not store the new reputation calculated for the query above and use it here again to avoid a potential race condition
$set_user_got .= ", reputation = " . $vbulletin->options['post_thanks_reputation'] . " + reputation, reputationlevelid = " . intval($reputationlevel['reputationlevelid']);
////////////////////////////////////////////////
// END FIX
////////////////////////////////////////////////
}
}
I hope that small note helps you improving that great hack further!

Do you know where you are getting this error from? It seems like some is clicking to remove their thanks and the link is not good. The postID is not being sent. Please check the post thanks templates.

How do you change the VIEWS column to show the amount of thanks a thread has?
Because, we all know that the number of views a thread has doesn't mean anything compare to the amount of thanks it has. It would make it easier for users to find old quality threads when surfing the forum.
Thanks!

Can I set an additional 'thanks' button? For "job well done" or some such thing? How do I go about adding a button -- I can do the graphics, but is there a problem with having two "thanks" hacks on a forum?

Thanks!This is a good idea! https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/02/15.gif
However rather than having a forumdisplay column, I would suggest adding icon in the thread title column, ala the rating graphics, that shows up if there is any thanks for any post on the thread with tool tip with "Thread contains x posts that where thanked a total of Y times".
Note that thanks are registered on the post level rather than the thread level. Still it is easy enough to find out if any posts on that thread have been thanked.

what i mean to say is that they dont see the hidden contents till they refresh the page...i even installed the newer version yesterday still no show....members still have to refresh the page inorder to see the hidden content:(
My thank button is looped too and also the list of Thankers is after every post instead of just the first one! I managed to get rid of the multiple thanks by limiting thanks to the first post, but still the list of thankers is after EVERY POST in the thread which clutters the whole page.
How do I fix this?
Same problem here. It loops and then I limited to the first post but same as yours, the list of members that thanked is showing at the bottom of each post and it is sooo ugly.
Can somebody please help with this?

For those who couldnt have it show up. I fixed mine.
Here is the thing.
on some templates the mod doesnt automatically work.
you gotta go and follow the instruction that comes with the Template Edits for Custom Styles.txt file. and follow what it says.
for me MEMBERINFO and NAVBAR was already edited but not postbit_legacy and postbit. so i did those manually and its working now.
hope it works for you.

I've been using this mod for quite some time now without a prob. Today I was notified by a member that she sees the "Thanks" button, but when she clicks it - it disappears yet nothing happens. There is no recorded thanks and her user name is not listed amongst the thankers. I'm wondering if it's a browser issue since no one else has reported this problem. I haven't disallowed her userID and she should have full thanking power. She's using the latest IE explorer and I'm using Thanks version 5.0 on vB 3.6.8 pl2.
Any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm about to unsubscribe from this thread so I thought I'd leave some parting comments.
I've installed it in 3.6.8 and it works just fine! In addition, I offer my complements to Abe1 for an excellent job of implementing it, including to adhering to the latest VB coding conventions and standards.
So if its not working for you, I suggest you triple check your installation procedure. I forget if this has an auto-install option, but if it does, I wouldn't trust it. Just follow the steps in the installation instructions.
I hope vBulletin.com and vBulletin.org pick up this mod and implement in their forums, if it doesn't get wrapped up into the next version of VB.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Excellent hack! My members love it. The only problem I had installing it is that the author assumes that the forum is in "/" for the post_thanks.php but I have my forum in "/forum". It took me about 5 minutes to figure out why it wasn't working but once I put that file in the right place, everything worked fine!!!
I'm running 3.6.8.

Everything is 2 times or more?It's rolling per post on the page. So the first post on a page will have 1 (in other words, it works fine), the second has 2 (itself and the first), the third 3. By the 15th you have 15. It starts fresh on the next page.

This is at the top of the page in orange or red:

Then this is in a "vBulletin Message" box:
Unable to add cookies, header already sent.

If you go to this thread http://www.broncosforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11734 and click on the second page, the error occurs.
I see that "for each" errors have been fixed in some of the 7.x releases. Should I just upgrade to 7.3? Is there any issues using 7.3 with 3.6.8?

I want to install this mod so badly onto my 3.5.4 - but would like to know what the template edits are before I start. :confused:

I just upgraded to 7.4 from 5.x.x. A few minor corrections I think should made:
In template post_thanks_member_info, this:
<legend>$vbphrase[post_thanks_thanks]</legend>
should be:
<legend>$vbphrase[post_thanks_total_thanks]</legend>
In template post_thanks_postbit_info, this:
<div>$vbphrase[post_thanks_thanks]: $post[post_thanks_user_amount_formatted] times</div>
should be:
<div>$vbphrase[post_thanks_total_thanks]: $post[post_thanks_user_amount_formatted] times</div>
Thanks again for this great plugin. :)

Same exact thing going on with me. Zero times thanked even though I just clicked the thumb deal. :)
It seemed to install correctly, so I'm not sure if I missed a step. Help! :)
Edited: Somehow it fixed itself. :)

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but I think a great addition (one that I would love) is to have an option for "Thanked {1} Times in {2} Posts" to be expressed as a percentage. It would make the thanks mean more where the quality of posts are important. Any chance of this? =D

For some reason the Thanks button is not showing up... even though it's uploaded. And the mod intalled perfectly. I see "thanked x times in x posts" under the persons username in posts... but the thanks button just isn't showing up. Any ideas?
Thank you
I am on VB 3.6.8 patch 2. I have not changed the default template (i don't have a different forum design than the one that came with VB originally).

Okay, after reading the last hundred posts I'm still stuck. It seems only two other people have had the same problem:
Warning: Unknown(/includes/functions_post_thanks.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /includes/class_postbit.php(268) : eval()'d code on line 7
Fatal error: (null)() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/xxxernxx/public_html/vforum/includes/functions_post_thanks.php' (include_path='.:/usr/php4/lib/php:/usr/local/php4/lib/php') in /home/xxxernxx/public_html/vforum/includes/class_postbit.php(268) : eval()'d code on line 7
The suggestions given were that the files were either uploaded incorrectly or not uploaded at all. Well, I've uploaded the files from the zip, triple checked to make sure they were all there and in the correct order and imported the product-post_thanks.xml file via the product manager with no problem, and I still get this error when trying to open a thread.
I uploaded the "upload via ftp" folder into my forum root directory, is this incorrect?
I'm new at this and have no clue. Am I supposed to re-name the upload via ftp folder? It appears it can't find the files, but they are all there. Thanks for any suggestions.
Also- I'm using a custom template. The instructions included with the thankyou hack included some template modifications that already existed in all of the templates, so I didn't change anything.

Hi
When I was needed post thank you that integrated with HIDE hack this hack does not support that. So I ordered VS-Hide hack resurection (Expanded) .
after that our domain has filtered in our country and we registered some new domains and used "Parked Domains" but vs-hide hack not worked on new domains and we tried to ask supporters to make a key file to use with some other domains (But on one site).
They supporters did not answer me from months ago !!!!
Now I saw new version of your hack support all of our need but the problem is calculated reputations and count on thanks !
I mean if I install your hack can I import all thanks count and reputation level that calculated with thanks and other informations from vs-hide hack?
thanks alot

Hi,
I wanna use this hack. But i'm curently using the old Mod "Post Thank You Hack" without AJAX. If I uninstall the old one, and install this one, shall it keep my users' "thanked" post count?
Anyone help me to answer this please.
Thanks!

Neden sadece adminlere özel oldu bende, üyeler ve mod'lar teşekkür butonunu göremiyor?.
It's not working properly for me. The buttons are showing but when you click one they just both disappear. They don't count. I am using 3.6.9 so maybe that's why?

Thanks
Can anyone help me? After I upgrade from 5.3 to 7.4, the Thank button disappeared and the list of users who thanked on all threads also gone.
What did I wrong or am I missing something? I'm using VBB 3.6.8.
Many thanks!

I am using 3.6.9 and it doesn't work. The thanks button is there but when you click it nothing happens.
By the way, all the template changes it says to make in the 3.6.8 file are already there.
Ok it works now. Even I'm using Vb 3.6.8, I have to follow the instruction of installing into Vb 3.6.0 and 3.6.5 because the template neeed to be modified again.
So if anybody has the sample problem with me, remember to edit your templates as described on the file Insructions - vb-3-6-0 - vb-3-6-5.txt
Cheers

If one was going to upload the post-thanks XML file manually via ftp, where would one place it? In the root forum or some other folder? Since there's been no help I'm left to trying random things.

The XML file can most easily be imported through your AdminCP...
AdminCP >> Plugins & Products >> Manage Products >> [Add/Import Product] (Right panel bottom).
Or FTP'd into your ./includes/xml/ directory... but you'll still need to do the above step after the file is uploaded directly via FTP.

It works in my 3.6.9 for the most part. The only thing that doesn't show is the "[username] has been thanked X times". Which is likely me screwing up somewhere again.. :)

I can only tell you that I followed the 3.6.8 upload instructions (and my idiotic mistake was uploading the "upload_via_ftp" folder, rather than uploading the contents of that folder into the appropriate vBulletin folders on my server), and did not edit the templates.

The 3.6.8 upload instructions make no sense for 3.6.9 because all the template edits are already done. There are no template edits to do, but the system still doesn't work.
