Everytime I go to install the xml, I get a page cannot be displayed after a few minutes. Im guessing its timing out or something cuz the product is so large to import.

It's not a big import file. Not sure why it wont import though.

Thanks: 0
Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts

You are NOT suppose to remove a product before installing an upgrade unless the deloper says specifically to do so. You loose all data you collected already.

I had reported this bug before in the version for vB3.5.x but you didn't solve it.

The bug is: even I prevent Guests and Spiders (usergroupID = 1) from using the post thank you button (see this picture 54651), spiders (like google) press the post thank you button and get error messages (see this picture 54652)

When we look at the page source for guests we will see this code:

<!-- Start Post Thank You Hack -->
<a href="showthread.php?do=post_thanks_add&amp;p=40864" rel="nofollow" id="post_thanks_button_40864" onclick="post_thanks_give_40864(); return false;"></a>
<!-- End Post Thank You Hack -->

the link is still existing but the button photo isn't, google doesn't understand ajax features and procces them as if they were normal links.

I added the rel="nofollow" but google doesn't obey it.

Please solve this problem.

Loving the hack.

Here's a different kind of question... How can I change the font size of the thanks box ("The following user says thank you...") to match the postbit_legacy font size? With lots of thanks, that box could get pretty big. Small font would help it blend in more as well.

EDIT: never mind. I found it! Change the <td> class from "alt2" to "smallfont"

:cool:

I've modified my installation a bit. I really wanted the vB.org MOTM hack on my site, but it isn't publicly available. I changed the button and all phrase text to refer to the system as a "Nomination for Tip of the Month". It only appears in forums that pertain to the particular piece of software we discuss.

Most thanks at teh end of the month wins tip of the month, then all are removed. We start fresh the next month

This hack is messy. It includes a long string of javascript after each and every post in the thread. Why it has to be that? You can just put javascript in an external .js file, attach postid to the "Thank You" button in each post, and for every click, the postid is passed to the function.

Please clean this up. The vbulletin inline mod offers a good example to follow.

There's a small W3C error, when you validate a showthread page you get this error for each thanks:
Warning Line x column x: reference not terminated by REFC delimiter.
<a href="member.php?u=x">username</a>&nbsp(22-10-2006)
There's &nbsp in the source code, this should be &nbsp;

Last time I checked, I had to do it this way because AJAX uses a second function that i am unable to send a variable to. I will look into it again since my knowledge for javascript has been increasing the past few weeks.

Correct.

Will be fixed in next release.

post_thanks_box_bit can be released with:
<if condition="$ajax_on"><a href=\"member.php?$session[sessionurl]u=$thank[userid]\" rel=\"nofollow\">$thank[username]</a><if condition="$date_thank">&nbsp;($date_thank)</if>$virg
<else />

There appear to be a conflict with Geek Article System

In GAS, part of the first post (with a link to full thread) displays on top of everypage.

That throws of a foreach error by post thank you.

It may be fixed in next version. I have edited some code and have gotten thanks hack to work on the showpost page. While doing that, I patched up some holes that can stop the other pages from getting errors.

Here is an UNOFFICIAL 5.3 version. It's not final at all (as in maybe more changes, no bugs though) but you can try it on your forum at let me know what happens.

Thanks for a great hack.

I am getting a few database error messages when I remove thanks. I doesn't happen every time I remove thanks just sometimes. I'm not sure why that is. Here is the message

Database error in vBulletin 3.6.2:

Hi Abe - excellent hack! I have a few questions I hope you can help with...

Last time I checked, I had to do it this way because AJAX uses a second function that i am unable to send a variable to. I will look into it again since my knowledge for javascript has been increasing the past few weeks.

Did you manage to work this out Abe?

Also, if we don't need to show:

Thanks: 0
Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts

Can we minus the query you mentioned for showthread? Just wondering as this might help people with busy forums?

Thanks again for a great hack!

AJAX is still in the template.

The stats dont come from the 1 query. They come from the user info.

adding a Thanks column into the Members List page would be awesome! i'm trying to get my head around it right now (got it working actually, but the searching is attached to post count for some reason and i can't separate them), but with the recent vB upgrade and you mentioning a newer version coming out, i'll hold off for a bit in hopes that maybe it'll be included with the next version. ;)

Hi Abe.

I have a serious question. I am not sure what other users have for raw numbers of thanks but I think I have a lot. My post_thanks table has a little over 770,000 records (yes, over 3/4 of a million), I have dozens of users with xx,xxx thanks and threads with x,xxx and xxx thanks. I have over 30k registered users, regularly have a little over 400 users online at once, we generate about 1,000+ new posts daily and I have a vB "User Activity" statistic of a little over 6,000+ daily.

The Thanks hack is very popular and important to my community. I am not sure of the code design and queries involved so I was wondering if this hack could be contributing to my load issues with this amount of user, post and thanks activity?

You can disable (NOT UNINSTALL) the hack for a minute, and see if the load changes at all for a showthread page.

I dont see why it should cause a problem. This hack only uses 1 query per showthread load. It does not run any other queries besides if a user clicks on thanks.

when i first installed this ages ago (3.5.X) i managed to move the thank you box from the BOTTOM of the post to the TOP instead. I prefer it at the top, however now I can't seem to 1. remember how i did it 2. see if its possible with this version so I'm lazily asking for a bit of assistance.

Can you easily change the position of the thank you box, I really don't like it at the bottom (this is the same for the groan hack too).

cheers.

I have the problem of people abusing the thanks button.

So If I deleted a user, I would also like all there posts to be deleted as they are most likely abused.

also

when a thread is deleted, the thanked count does not change, is this like the above, or do I have to run one of the update counters from the admincp, I would just like it to be easier.

Also, I would like an option to be able to remove all thanks that a user has given, and another option to remove all thanks a user has.

Thanks.

I used template conditionals to hide thanks for them but the product's still using 1 query...

I tried to wrap postbit_display_start plugin with the code below:

Great!

But at second thought it might be better to give the users the option to show the thanks-box or not in the control panel (but have it _on_ as standard, eg when new users register, and for everyone who has not opted it not to show). The debate on my forum was that the thanks-box take up too much space, so maybe they won't like the blue collapsible-bar either...

I've got another request from my users as well:

Is it possible to make a link (search) on a kind of list over the posts a user has posted a "thank you" to also? Just like the kind that shows which posts has received a "thank you".

Actually, this hack uses up a lot of extra cpu, esppecially on large sites...

Abe1...
In javascript, lines of code should end with a ;... Otherwise the hack won't work on older browsers (as a matter of fact, it shouldn't work on new ones either, but strangely it does). Also, perhaps you should implement some sort of cache cause your hack has a lot of queries that could be eliminated, and goes through much more data than it could have. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for your reply,
Yes I have the correct, and the latest version of the post thank-you hack (5.3) from Abe1.
In fact I have used it for quite a while before I installed your hide hack and I had no problem with it what so ever.
The strangest part is that after clicking the Thanks button, it disappears (the thanks button) so I have no idea what could be the problem.
Also as I mentioned in my previous post the other issue is that after navigating to another thread and returning where I previously pressed the thanks button the content is hidden again.
Thank you in advance for your feed back

First of all, u can't Thanks your self, ;)

I can always be sure to thank someone before editing the post or I could turn on the option to Thank Self, but I wondered if there was a way to not have to turn that on and have the link still remain after editing? Thanks.

Thats true, need to be fixed!

But if you reload page, F5, the button apears again! :D

The reason it dissapers is because vb doesn't run the regular showpost to show the AJAX post. It would not be easy to fix.

I have seen a forum where the people who have done the thanking, are hidden. Instead it shows only the number of thanks the post has received. To view WHO has done the thanking (and when) you must click "show me".

I find this looks alot neater when lots of people thank the same post. See linked screenshot. http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/1264/hiddenzl4.th.jpg (http://img409.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hiddenzl4.jpg)

Does anybody know how this was done?

Was this in reply to my question? If so, then I don't think it has quite answered it, as I was after a way to make this hack NOT REVEAL the names of the thankers automatically, but instead requires the viewer to click "reveal" after the line "The following users found this post useful:". Then once you have clicked "reveal" the names and dates of the contributing thankers appears. Please see the image I have linked to above for an example of where I have seen this.

ALSO: Is there a way to bring the THANKS list just a few lines closer to the bottom of the post that it refers to, at the moment it is hard to distinguish whether it refers to the bost below or the post above because of the proximity to both.

Thanks again.

No, it was not a reply to your question. My request is stopping background script execution when you hide post_thanks to the guests via template conditionals.

Btw, it'd be nice to be added "collapse thanks" feature as you mentioned.

This is just too bad although I find it kind of normal that you don't.

The database hack is a great mod and many forums use it, even here! Using that hack, the fact that somebody posts a file on the first post is usually the one which we would thanks for the file but it does not appear. But now the Thnaks button does not appear with it. Anyhow, I'll try to ask in another thread.

Thanks for having taken the time to answer my question. :) And thanks again for your great mod.

Ok, this is not the best way to do it, as I manually typed in wording, but it works fine.

I added this to postbit and postbit_legacy, replacing original values:

<!-- Start Post Thank You Hack -->
<if condition="$post[userid]">
<br />
Thanks Given: $post[post_thanks_user_amount], Groans Given: $post[post_groan_user_amount]
<br />
<if condition="$post[post_thanks_thanked_times_on] == 1">
$vbphrase[post_thanks_time_post]
<else />
<if condition="$post[post_thanks_thanked_posts_on] == 1">
<phrase 1="$post[post_thanks_thanked_times]">$vbphrase[post_thanks_times_post]</phrase>
<else />
<phrase 1="$post[post_thanks_thanked_times]" 2="$post[post_thanks_thanked_posts]">$vbphrase[post_thanks_times_posts]</phrase>
</if>
</if>
</if>
<!-- End Post Thank You Hack -->

<br />

<!-- Start Post Groan Hack -->
<if condition="$post[post_groan_times_on] == 1">
$vbphrase[post_groan_time_post]
<else />
<if condition="$post[post_groan_posts_on] == 1">
<phrase 1="$post[post_groan_times]">$vbphrase[post_groan_times_post]</phrase>
<else />
<phrase 1="$post[post_groan_times]" 2="$post[post_groan_posts]">$vbphrase[post_groan_times_posts]</phrase>
</if>
</if>
</if>
<!-- End Post Groan Hack -->

Now it shows like this:

Thanks Given: 0, Groans Given: 0
Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts
Groaned at 0 Times in 0 Posts

Would anybody be interested in a script that tallies up thanks in a month and spits out a table or list of users with the most thanks? Could make a nice "Top Thank Earners of the Month" page. I'm working on it right now and I have the bulk of it done. Just gotta make it pretty.

Also, I don't know how to make it into a plugin or a template yet. It's simply on a non-vb page right now. Do any more experienced coders know how to convert a php script to something that could be made into a plugin/product?

First I want to say I really like this hack. I prefer it to the reputation system.

I was wondering, and sorry if this has already been discuss, but is it possible to hide the thanks from the posts and just leave it in the member's section, but with all the details there? Or even better would be for each member to only see the thanks they received and not all of them. It take a lot of space when peoples are thanked at every post of it 10-15 peoples thank another one for one post.

Thanks :
