My Page/My Diary
Hi everyone,
I would like some help/request on doing something like a members own page or diary. I have a travel site and I want to incorporate a travel journal type feature into it. I have seen various hacks and such that would do similar things, but don't really see anything that is perfect yet for this or has everything I desire. Does anyone have something similar to this installed or some good ideas on how to implement something like this. I would like it to be similar to the members profile, except that is the members page, where they can add a photo of themselves, write stories/poetry/etc. and share some favorite links. I would also like to be able to include a button in ever users post that says "My Page". Any suggestions? Thanks Mike |

In fact it's not a very difficult to code hack but I suggest you double check the coder's expertise before applying such a hack into your side.
The problem is: what you requested requires user HTML inserts and file uploads (pictures etc.) and these can cause very dangerous security breaches if coder doesnt really know what he is doing. An open door for hackers.. Even if you use such a hack, I strongly suggest you requesting/using moderation of user's pages before they are published on your site. This should include edit moderation too.. Regards, |

ive already made a travel log thingy for my board but the picture thing is practicly useless, i give the members a personal photo album where they can upload pics, because most of the people get their photos done after the trip.

DjSap I wish the url to your homepage worked so I could see what you are doing.
Thanks Logician for replying and giving some advice. The more I look at it the less complicated it seems. What I am thinking about is just expanding the User Profile and changing that whole thing to an "about me page". I have already started restructuring it and adding custom fields and such. I am also using your web templates hack so maybe I can find someway of using that also. Still struggling though to figure it out. Only installed it a day ago and haven't gotten over the hurdle of differant styles for differant users. Since I have multiple styles and each one varies with differant custom templates. So the header of number one is differant from the header of number two...etc...etc.... I will let you know how I make out. Mike |

Are we talking about Webtemplates hack here? If yes you dont have to create different styles for different users. You just design your template with vb variables such as {tableheadercolor_} and then the page will be shown according to the visitor's style automatically. But I guess I am talking about something else here, right? If your question is about my hack, please do not hasitate to ask it in the original thread. Regards, |
