Mini-Admins
I use a forum where there's lots of people who set up small groups and teams and they usually end up wanting their own private forums in the community but with custom settings and stuff. This gets to be a pain when they want to change things often or when they have different posting guidelines than the rest of the board. Plus if they add or get rid of members often and they have a private area then I have to change usergroups all the time.
So I thought that a hack which could do the following would be very useful for me and anyone else in a similar situation. allows a person to apply to be an admin of their own subforum/s. if accepted they have control of the style options in their forum (maybe not the templates, or maybe it can be an option), can select users to add/take off the usergroups for their subforum, can ban/unban users from their subforums. as far as usertitles/ranks, I think they'd have to be applied only in their subforum, or maybe have it be approved by a global admin if its to be used across the whole forum. but as a mini-admin they don't have any global control. |

I like this Idea, I post at Gamespots forums, and they have a User Created Board system, where any Complete (paying) member of the forums can create a UCB and can have a banner, set mods, however it does not let you ban users from that forum which would be great.
I would endorse this idea wholeheartedly. It sounds a bit like Amykhars Hideaways but much more powerful. |

and thanks for the suggestion about the public joinable group, I haven't ever tried that. do they enter members' names that they want to allow in the group or do people have to request to join.. and does a request send a pm or email or how's that work? |

I have been wanting an "EZBoard" type Forums since VB2.0 (Tribes 1 days) when I did not have the time to be in charge of 346 - 700 forums - I did not have time to play any games, just run the forums - I ran a site in the "day" w/ 75 clans @ 25-200 people per clan we moved to VB because of the 10,000 popup and Ads. What a pain it was making groups / changing access to clan members 10 X a day because they drop from 1 team go to the other. I told them its my way (because I could not make it where they edit it) - Now I have 1-4 clans on my site. I could not keep up w/ the requests. They all went and made their own site w/ phpbb that they had controle over like EZboard. :ermm: - It's not going to happen here. - VB does not do that. - In 3.x days when new there was a beta hack that was made to do this - It was Axed. It floats out there in cyberspace but unsuported and blaw blaw blaw. It's a shame - guess I could start working on phpBB. Blaw its not worth it to use phpbb. Reason I bought VB . |

yeah, that's the problem I'm facing now. We're looking to keep the community growing while maintaining its unity. We moved from ezboard because of the lack of customization and if we were going to pay to have 'gold' status we figured we might as well pay for premium forum software instead.
needless to say we didn't realize we'd be losing the ability which ezboard offers where people can have their own forum and visit another forum without having to login again. We thought we'd be able to simulate this on a community forum by hosting small clan subforums underneath the public one, however as you pointed out if you use vbulletin to do this you just end up giving yourself a headache. We're not looking for some hack to let us host 1000000 independent/unique forums, we're looking for one that will allow moderators more control of the subforums that they moderate so that we (the admins) can delegate more responsibility to them without having to worry that their changes will affect the global forum settings. |

You could appoint some of your more trusted moderators with the administration of forums. You can easily set limited permissions to ACP

well the problem is that we don't want to administer their subforums and they don't want us to either. Each group has different guidelines to posting in their subforums, some are more strict than others. If another user ends up posting in their public forum in a way that the group disagrees then we want them (the moderator/team leader) to be able to ban them if they must without having that ban affect that user on other parts of the forum.
we and they would also like the ability to change the colors/banner of their forum without having to get anyone else involved. |

- 270 forums now - 15-20 for Teams / game clans Quote:
If you allow them to mod forums then its all or nada. There is no way I will let a person that plays games, and has problems loging in to the forums have access to something important. This would put me on the path of reinstall. |
