Custom Category Icons
Hi,
I know there Is a custom Icon hack vor vb3.5 but I would like something more. You know the standard Icons of vbulletin, right ? They change the color, if there is a new posting available. What about custom Icons, that change the color after a new posting was made ? For Example: Each custom Icon of each category should appear desaturated (black/white) if there is no new posting in that forum. Thanks in advance |

Well.. you'd have to make the misc images.
I have done that on www.mmogcommunities.com and then used the vb category icons hack with a slight modification to do what I believe you are referring too. Only downside is having to create several images , but it's pretty simple with the graphics pack and just use photoshop and the blending options - color overlay - change the color to black and select 50% Hmmm, that sounded clearer in my head then it does typed out =/ |

well, I created a new folder off my images folder called "fhicons"
When you edit a forum, instead of putting the full url, just put like a 3 or 4 letter sequence that is unique for that forum. For example, on my forum above all the asheron's call 1 forums I put ac1 in that box. Then I made 5 versions of a 35x35 gif for the ac1 forums and named them ac1_link.gif ac1_new.gif ac1_new_lock.gif ac1_old.gif ac1_old_lock.gif Lastly, I took out the template edit he did to the forumhome_forumbit_level2_post template and instead did this edit Find: Code:
<img src="$stylevar[imgdir_statusicon]/forum_$forum[statusicon].gif" alt="" border="0" /> Code:
<!-- ##### START HACK - Forum Type Icons ##### --> <if condition="$forum[forumhomeicon]"> <img src="images/fhicons/$forum[forumhomeicon]_$forum[statusicon].gif" alt="" border="0" /> <else /> <img src="$stylevar[imgdir_statusicon]/forum_$forum[statusicon].gif" alt="" border="0" /> </if> <!-- ##### END HACK - Forum Type Icons ##### --> This way, forums that you don't set an icon for, will use the regular default ones |
