Upgrading Questions
I hope I posted in the right place. I have to upgrade my vb from 3.08 to 3.5 and I have never done an upgrade before so I am not sure what to expect. I am assuming that I will need to rehack and install all of the mods and programs associated with vb? Is there a way that I can do the upgrade on a subdomain so I can take my time and do it right then move it to the live location? Basically I just need some pointers on how to upgrade and what to expect. Thanks everyone.

actually yes, you will have to rehack your board, as the 3.5 upgrade does not contain any hack from vB.org. -- ok, a lot of new features in the latest version are from suggestions and hacks ...
you can always make a backup of your database and try an upgrade from the backup, so your production website is not touched until you're ready to make the official move... i always suggest to clients to play with 3.5 before asking a coder to re-hack their board, because most of the clients requests are now integrated in the 3.5 version... no more need to hack, just need to learn from it. you can even create a test version of the clean install of vB. so you can play with it without making trash... |
