vBulletin 3.5 vs. IPB 2.1
I am very interested in both vBulletin and Invision Power Board. However, I can only choose one and thus require your opinions on these topics so I can see which one suits my needs better. I understand that this is a vBulletin forum so the answers are biased, however, this is the opportunity for me to know why vBulletin is better.
1- Skinning In terms of Skinning, which one do you feel has the best skinnablility? Is it easier to skin with IPB or vBulletin? Why? Which is more versatile to edit? 2- Management I personally tried out the demos of IPB 2.1 Admin Panel and the vBulletin's demo. However, I noticed that IPB's seems to be much more professional than vBulletin and had a much cleaner feel. vBulletin's Admin Control Panel seemed to be a bit sour for my taste. Is there a way to change the style of the skin in vBulletin? 3- Modding Both IPB 2.1 and vBulletin seem to have pretty good mods. Which one has more? Is it easier to mod with IPB or vBulletin? 4- Features Both software are chock filled with features, so many that some people call a few of them "bloatware". But which one has the most features? Are the features in vBulletin or IPB what you consider to be "bloatware"? Are there features in vBulletin that IPB doesnt have? Are there features in IPB that vBulletin doesn't have? 5- Ease of Use In terms of the criteria from the 1st 4 subjects, please tell me what you feel is the ease of use. With many features in both vBulletin and IPB, there comes the fact of the comfortable setting of getting something done. Which has the upside in ease of use? -NOTE: Value and price is NOT a factor- |

2)yes vbulletin can use custom "styles" you can even change the style used in the admincp (cpstyles folder) 3)as of vbulletin 3.5.0 there is a so called "plugin system" which makes it allot easyer to install modifications vbulletin is by far the largest forum software 4)well that's kind of personal taste one thing i don't like to much in vbulletin is the calandar 5)vbulletin is verry easy to use.Better moderator control then ipb althrough ipb has some features that are not in vbulletin by default |

Skinning, I don't know tomuch about as I don't really have a need for it.
Management, I really don't care what the AdminCP looks LIek, as long as it works. In VB, it does. Plugin system is outstanding in VB 3.5 Never found adding mods tobe easier. Both versions are loaded with features, that would be a personalt pref as to which features you would find more usefull. Ease of use. My answer would be biased here, as all I have used is VB. I have tryed out phpbb, and have worked with Ipb a little. But i can't honestly grade the other products. |

Skinning - vBulletin. By far.
Management - The AdminCP isn't as PRETTY as IPB, but it can be skinned. The functionality is much greater, though. Features - Eh, they both have a lot. Modding - vB 3.5 has a modding system that allows for Plugins that usually don't require ANY editing of files. I installed like 20 hacks in a half hour. Ease of Use - I used to use IPB, but when I switched to vBulletin, I decided not to go back for any of my serious forums. It's not so much EASIER to use as it is BETTER, in my opinion. |
