Hi...
I'm working on my first style. I'm a serious newbie at all of this. My site was something I inhearited less then a year ago. This is also when I started web design, and using photoshop. Now... I'm the only person who does work on my site. I have a guy who is "supposed" to help, but he always is "too busy". So, Here are some things I would like to know/do, and I'm hoping you can all help me build as I go. I'm using vBulletin 3.5 gold. I just installed it and am EXTREMELY happy with the upgrades. I am wanting to create a skin based around the effects of a blacklight, and it's reactive properties on green material. As you can see here:http://www.7hmgaming.com/forum/index.php?styleid=31 I've already created the black base for it. I have a feeling I'll be changing many of the colors, but I seriously get lost sometimes. I want to change a color, I go to AdminCP and adjust the area where I think will modify the area I want... but it does nothing. Then I go find another area, and yeah... you get the point. That or misterious borders show up... or all kinds of things. For instance, I wanted to have a second alternationg color of 333333 and have the first 000000. But there would be a "background" color for the font of 000000. Why is this? Now... On to my if condition... Now since you know from my typings earlier. I'm a newbie to web design, and web coding. So please bare with me and don't be mad cause I don't know. I can learn fast, I just have never touched this stuff until I got this site which was completely unhacked when I recieved it. I want create an if condition for IE to use .gif, and for FF to use png. I'm thinking that I'll have to default the site to .gif, and add the if condition for detecting FF to allow png. I don't even know where to start with this, but think this would be an awesome hack/code to use until IE 7 shows up (if it ever does). Thanks in advance. Proper 7hmgaming.com |

I'm not sure what exactly your style problems are, but here's a (rather general) piece of advice: Have a look at the vBulletin Documentation, where there are style maps that show you which piece of the page uses which css style, making it much easier to customize your board
![]() If condition: You could use the is_browser() function in the if condition, but I've never used it, so you'd have to check the syntax... |

I'm sure there are other users out there looking for that EXACT link and answer. I understand that it sounds retarded, but I also forget to check the manual and tend to go to forums first. Live people tend to help or give updated hints where FAQ, or manuals tend to be outdated. I'm aware the style I created is ugly, but I've always wanted to tinker with a blacklight style. That link will help tremendously. Now... With the browser function.... I'm pretty new with vBulletin. I understand that I can use the condition, but I'm not exactly sure where I would apply this. Would it be in a template? Do you think I'd seriously have to go through the entire list of templates searching for every instance of an image on my site to apply this as a variable? |
