Some questions about accessing info in the database elsewhere

I don't want someone to tell me or do my work for me. but I'd like some tips and some advice in which direction I need to be thinking.

I want to be able to access certain information from the database on non-vbulletin pages.

Like pull information about a user, the user fields, maybe things like posts today.

What kind of things do I need to consider when going about doing this?
