Hiding forum on main index

hi, i'm really stuck, can anyone please tell me how i would go about hiding a forum from the main page by editing the source and by not using usergroups

u mean u just want to show the portal page and nothing else?

Alternatively, you can just turn off vbulletin within the options menu...

i'll try wording better,

I have a mod that locks the forums by age but you can still see the forum on the index when you view the forum, but i want to hide the forum from being shown to users who are too young and shown to users who are old enough,

I would hide via usergroup permissions, but you stated you didn not want to do it this way.
