ok this may seem obvious, and maybe its so easy only us n00bs (me) don't know how to do it...... and yah, it was probably requested....but I looked and couldn't find it so...

Its all about search nowadays so....... why not prioritize that more on forums?

1. I would LOVE to see Google Adsense search results integrated into the FORUM SEARCH RESULTS.

(as most know, THAT is how google makes 90% of its revenue....ad integrated in SEARCH RESULTS (the adsense distribution in gmail and sites is only a relatively small portion of that).

so... when someone searches my forums I'd be great to see some related Adsense adds appearing wherever (generally top). That is...maybe top three search results are adsense...the rest of forum results. their could be a dividing line to visually separate them...or not.

reality check: lets be real...no one really uses a WEB search box in a forum site that much (its just easier to go directly to google or just use a toolbar many have installed). That said, I find members (and me) DO search within my forums for local content (the famous: "there already was a thread on that!!...."), but certainly not enough to get a member to pay for ranked inclusion.

Why not just plug in Google RESULTS (not just the search box) in the forum results? (so they look like SEARCH results, not just text ads).


2. heck no reason to believe that if search function was prioritized more that one might be able to generate enough queries to install a local PPC engine. I know Php based ppc search engines systems are available for purchase (I have one. ). Maybe someone could port one. (but that's a different story)

so use adsense at top....then local search results, and then local ppc engine results.


3. integrate IMAGE and ATTACHMENT results in the search results as well? That is search for posts with Attachments and/or Images...

AND display those results as you would in image search. BUT AS PART OF THE TOTAL RESULTS. (ie: a long scroll of results....first text, then a separator then images etc).

this method called "combined results" is EXTREMELY popular in Korea search results. Instead of on different pages....the first page of results has like 5 results from web, local, image, directory, video, news, etc, respectively in groups of 5. Like I said...its a looonggg gotta scroll page...but it works.


If anything...it'd be useful AND cool.


(btw, if you haven't guess...I've worked in the search engine market for years. )

btw, I'd be willing to work with someone on this in terms of details of what I mean here if interested. I am in Korea and there is a LOT of cool and waaay advanced concepts related to search and other stuff. Porting stuff over via vbulletin would be an amazing way to introduce some new and exciting tech ideas from this side of the world across to the US side.

for example, I notice some interest in porting MSN Spaces over..... did you know that the Spaces concept (and Circles from Lycos) was taken from a VERY VERY popular Korean web site and business model? There is a ton of stuff like that...and if some coders here wanted an inside scoop on crazy stuff.... to port over I'd be happy to talk. could be quite a coup.

ya that's the skinny of it.

it shouldn't be too tough I'd think....integrate search AD results into the forum search results. but hey...this is the n00b talkin.
