is opendir() possible for remote link ?

PHP.net says

Quote:

path can also be any URL which supports directory listing

but I cannot get it work to open a dir like http://google.com/adirectory/

I tried to open a directory which has directory listing on but can't.

Does anyone know any other ways or it's impossible ?
