Animation stops when popup opens

One of my hacks uses a javascript popup to show some info to users who click a href and I have a little bug that stops animation on the old page that had the link as soon as a user clicks it.

The link is displayed and called from postbit_attachment template.
My window.open is a function in headincludes.
My self.focus and window.close are in a third party template.

I notice vbulletin's smilie popup, for example, doesn't kill animation like it is for me so I know it's "possible to cure", but I'm not making progress yet.

Any ideas??

Just a follow-up ... I cured it by just calling the window.open right from the postbit_attachment instead of headinclude ... no seperate function neccessary.
