Default WebBBS > vBulletin

I am not familiar with how to set up a bulletin board system. I belong to a non-profit group and have been basically delegated to move our bbs to our new server. Currently we have 18k+ records on WebBBS, and our new server doesn't support it. I have no idea what to do, but many people have recommended vBulletin.

Is there a conversion that will definitely work?

Can I do this myself without any working knowledge of cgi, php, etc.?

Can I set up vBulletin to look and work relatively identical to our current system?

http://www.usgennet.org/usa/wi/count...ords/index.cgi

I would appreciate any information before we purchase anything

Thank you

On the subject of migrating, please check the Import System forum at www.vbulletin.com/forum. You will find a topic on the top with a list of all supported migrations. If yours is not mentioned or you still have questions on that, please post in the Pre-Sales forum at vbulletin.com.

The look and feel of vBulletin can easily be adjusted to your own needs by modifying templates. For most changes you will only need some HTML knowledge, or you can hire someone who can do it for you.

About specific functions that might not be supported by the default vBulletin installation, we have a very active community here at vBulletin.org that release a lot of modification to the standard coding.

Feel free to look around here on the forums, and if you have specific questions, to ask them in here.

Looking forward to see you running a vBulletin board soon.

Just had a fast look at your current board. With all respect, i think you will be surprised by the improvements that have been made to Message Boards in General, and you will love the new layouts and possibilities vBulletin will give you over your current solution.

Thank you, no one seems to be able to convert. I wonder if I"ll have to somehow save the old records as "archives" and move forward from there.

I'm still not too confident in my ability to pull this off! Thanks for responding. I still need to check how our server works in regard to running what it takes to have vbulletin --

You may want to take a look at this thread which is for an unofficial convertor of webBBS to vb 2.x.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...ghlight=webbbs

Once you imported the data into vb2, you could upgrade that to the latest version of vb3 with no problem.

thank you. I saw that in there but was afraid of it! I wonder if it works, or if I could make it work, without being able to test anything with vBulletin.

I wish I could find something that was a definite. It sure is hard.

thanks

Do you only have your production webBBS board, or also a test board?

If you need it, i am sure there are members here that would be able to aid you in making the move.
