i think it would be a good thing, though this thread is probably useless with it already on it's way back (hence asking for us to zip up hacks)

I doubt that would make any sense. Some people might click the link twice, some might download, but never use it.

I don't think it's intended to be some sort of exact indication of how many people install a mod or anything, that's what the install count is for.

Indeed - As far as I am aware it is not publicly available, but was back in the days of vB2 on vB.org
