Why are huge impractical postbits becoming a trend? Xelation is one of the least user-friendly sites I've seen, but people keep copying it... why?

Your postbit, design-wise, is awesome. You obviously have a talent... but there's no way anyone would want to stay on a site that has a post width of ~300 pixels.

I'm going to have to agree with plattopus. The postbit from a design perspective is excellent but if your forum has 1,000's of users it'll get old fast. Take a look at the page size of xelation.com threads. Some of the pages are 375 kb PER page. That's outrageous in the end and I personally think that's what has contributed to a VERY slow start for the website.

It's cool and all but way way too big. It should be 160 pixels max (postbit info area). I personally feel as though, its your attempt to razzle & dazzle your visitors by glorifying your website with overly large graphics.

I would like it at first but I'll stress the fact that it'll get old fast.

In terms of design, that's probably one of the best potbit modifications I've seen so far. You obviously know how to design kickass forums, now just make it a little more user-friendly.
