Hello hello,
I am having problems with a couple members making HUGE posts, and only had vB installed for a little over a week. I can forsee it being too much work for oh me oh moi ,and a couple mods, to always be on top of it, to edit posts down to a reasonable size... and it's causing unnecessary arguments over what is "reasonable". So, a software solution would make me wet my jeans.
My question put simply is, does anybody know how to modify the vB 1.1.5 software, to limit how many text characters, etc., can go through to a thread, on an individual post?
Thanks,
Mong

I don't have an answer on how to fix it in version 1.1.5 but I know this is an option in 2.0 (at least, it is in my beta 1 version). You can set the max "Maximum Characters per post" via the control panel.
thanks for the reply.
Well hell, I bought a years lease on vb 1.1.5
Maybe I shoulda gone with the 2.0 beta?? I'm new at this, and have a sizeable community that was formally using yahoo clubs after we migrated there from an ezine that sold out to a place with crappy interaction software...it's a long story! But yahoo sucked on the wazoo, it was slow, kept bugging out, and one could only get one post at a time, yadda yadda yadda.
I love this vB software. I had stumbled on to a place that reviewed software, and this got a great recommendation, so I checked it out. Will love it even more, if we can solve the post size problem.
We want to keep the threads loading reasonably fast for the slow modem users, and there's a couple that are plastering copy and pasted verbiage, some are too long winded, and some joker found their way in there, and posted about a megabyte worth of "**** YOU" repeated over and over...I want to keep the place relatively open, and don't want to have email verification, ban people when they act up, and have the mods be over worked trying to keep up with onslaughts.
anyway, If any of the resident genuises have hack solution, please let me know!
Can I load the 2.0 into a different directory, and keep 1.1.5 going in the meantime without violating the lease agreement, until 2.0 is set up the way I want it??
I'm a-scairt of bugs in something new, too, so would like to have both for a short time, until I'm comfortable.

That would be something an official VB rep would have to address. I'd imagine there is a little "overlap" allowance considering the release is labeled BETA.
