I am wanting to use little images of the league associated with that forum, I will use these to show that their are no new posts, what should I do to them to denote new posts? Any recommendations would be greatly thanked.

I'd use the ones you posted above to show that there are new images, and convert them to grayscale for when there are no new images.

I thought of that, I also thought of making them blinking, I can't seem to gray scale them right though
