Track attachment downloads?

Hi,

Is there any way to track a users downloads, for a particular attachment?

i.e user accesses the attachment ID 12345 5 times, and 5434 6 times, etc.

Basically, someone has posted an attachment on our site, which keeps getting accessed by "robots". Don't ask me why/how he decided to do this; but its spreading... and using up resources. Ideally, we need a way to ban the offending IP address automatically, to reduce the strain on the server. Unfortunatly, I'm only a Perl programmer, so a lot of the PHP stuff is native to me :disappointed:

Any ideas? :/
