SERVER used by vbulletin.org ?
As I look at the site statistica for vbulletin.org I wonder what kind of server power gets your job done?
Threads: 51,921, Posts: 478,067, Members: 72,666 Currently Active Users: 260 (72 members and 188 guests) My board is on a dedicated Dell Xeon with 2Gig of ram and SCSI drives and we still slow down in evening prime time when ge get over 100 users. Actually, sounds like your server is not tuned.
vBulletins server is located at ThePlanet.com and it is a Dual Xeon with 4 GB of ram and SCSI disks, it houses vBulletin.com/org and vBT |

Shouldn't that particular board be viewable only by logged in vBulletin users? This is stuff that normally goes into a support ticket. |

Nothing there is going to kill your forums.

My battles continue.
First, thank you for the reassurance about security. Second, my log file is now at 1Gig for the site. RAM is 2Gig and now when the logs process and we get into swap, I get errors like this: May 18 03:06:05 hitmiss kernel: swap_free: Bad swap file entry 7a29126e May 18 03:06:05 hitmiss kernel: swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 7e2fe02c At that point, I can count on the database crashing: info : Wrong aligned block at 5281650 info : Wrong bytesec: 105-110- 32 at 5281650; Skipped warning : Number of rows changed from 95202 to 94916 Fortunately, the server's rebuild takes care of the database errors, but I'm at my rope's end with ev1servers.net and ezsm.net because these folks should know how to fix this stuff. The swap errors started when they added the second memory board. Shouldn't the swap file be double the RAM amount? I came back to this thread to check your reference on ThePlanet.com so you can see where this situation is going. For now, I'm going to gzip the log files, but that is only a temporary measure. I realize that this isn't a support forum. I'm just rattled and I need a break in "The Lounge." |

A rule of thumb is to have 2-3 times the amount of your RAM assigned as swap space.
If this started after memory was added, you could also question if the RAM is not defective. But with errors like this, it is only time before you get into serious trouble (not saying your troubles aren't serious now). I hope you get this solved soon. |

I have observed that getting a hosting company to change out a hard drive or a server is like pulling teeth. It has to be well documented.
At least they replaced all the RAM today. The server seems much snappier than before, but this is all an intermittent thing so I'll hang tight for another 24 hours. None of the techs seem to be bothered about the swap file being the same as RAM (2 Gig). I too have observed in the past that Swap = 2X RAM. ------------------------------ I was just looking in on the Chit Chat forum over at vbulletin.com and noticed the one million posts and greater thread. It has at its top the offtopic.com forum. Wow! Now, there's the server question to ask! Take a look at what runs that thing! http://forums.offtopic.com/status2.html |
