It's too bad nobody replied to you - this is a good idea. It seems not too many people are concerned with the importance of the Buddy List, unfortunately.
The buddy list is one of the most powerfull things vb has to get more members to join your site.
I am as well confused why it is not given it's due...
I mean imagine the more friends you have to more your rep goes up.
Member status could change after x reps.
This opens a ton of ideas for sites.
link sites, dating sites, referal/sales sites etc... you can go on and on...
The Free ipod idea was a big hit... you could do the same thing with the reps if you have the power.
