Default SMTP Authentication

I've searched hi and low for a way to do this. Came across a hack on this site, but it didn't work. Here's my problem. I have an IP address that falls in the dial-up range so I can't have my own server. I use godaddy.com's email servers, but their smtp requires authentication. Hence my problem. Is there a good work around for this yet? I've even tried setting up my mail server as a smart host without success.
This is the only thing preventing me from having a live site.

Thank you in advance!

<rant on> Since nobody responded I can assume this is a rather sensitive issue. I know that if I would have known that this BASIC feature of software of this nature wasn't included then I wouldn't have chosen it. Free software offer this feature, why can't one that we're paying good money for offer it? Yeah, I know. Next version. Whatever.
But, the issue is closed for me, I'm moving to a host. Against my will. I wanted to host my own server, but I didn't want to have to pay for a more expensive line to get a non dynamic/dial-up range IP address. Other software I could work around it. This one I can't.
Please don't give me crap about ranting. I'm a customer after all. I'm entitiled. I still love the software, just not every inch of it. </rant off>

Try taking your rant to vbulletin.com - you may get a better response.

Since they actually MAKE the software

The suggestion by manguish is really the best, you could even open an support ticket. Best chance on a good answer. vBulletin.org is for code modifications, not for standard configuration issues, although the combined members of vb.org have a lot of knowledge in running vB site and can help in a lot of cases.

In your case, i have seen your question, but have unfortunatly no experience at all in using a SMTP server with vB, and i really don't even understand the problem you have with the godaddy's mailserver (because i also never used those).

I do know (from previous reading of code) that there is support for some kind of basic authentication to SMTP server build in to vB. Sorry i don't know how to set it up.

PS this got nothing to do with being a "sensitive issue", don't even understand why you say that (i am blond ).
