Good job on modifying vBportal like that, very original for what you have to use.
I personally am not too fond of the colors, but that's just me being picky.
The only thing I would really recommend is making custom icons rather than using the vBulletin default, but again that's me being picky.

Good job.

I like the direction you took with the design ... however, it's too wide (width) ...

another thing--the images .. THEY ARE HUGE ..
yet, the text are so small
... in other words, the text becomes 'garbage' surrounded by all your images
... the text doesn't stand out .. images that size are meant to draw focus away

I recommend removing the background shading on the header.

It's not too wide, think about who I cater too. If any of those guys are using 800x600, then they dont need to be on that site. That is what you must be running if you think the images are too big...?

I'm on a 1600 resolution--19" monitor ... and, I surf with 2 browser windows open OR a browser and some other application running--it depends on what I'm doing.

If you want to get the most out of your site you should either
1) create a liquid layout
2) create an 800 resolution design
3) create an optional style switcher where a user can switch width sizes

FYI: The best alternative is a default 800 (fixed) resolution.

Never assume who your viewers are ... you should always design for the lowest denominator.

Most daytime surfers are people who are at work.
What monitor resolution do you think dominates the corporate offices of the world?

I'm only making a suggestion ... only you know who your viewers are.

Your showcase images are fine in LARGE sizes--nothing wrong with that .. it's your non-showcase/ads images that should be smaller.

My users are cad/viz/photoshop/ graphic intense users. Do you really think they would be running 800x600, or even at there office? I cater to MY users not joe blow that knows nothing of graphics. You ever been to cgtalk.com? I guess you can tell them that there forums are too wide too....

No need to get into a pissing match on who thinks whos right and whos wrong, your entitled to your opinion

I run dual 19's, maybe you should upgrade so you can get the full advantage of your screen size.

Also here is some browser stats for ya.

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

Guess 800x600 is getting phased out....

I never said you were wrong ...
I am just giving my opinion since you asked for it (you posted in forum commenting didn't you??)

Anyway, the browser stats at w3c are mostly .... guess what group visits that site??

All I'm saying is that if you want to get the most BANG for your time/money then you should design with everyone in mind.

In the long run, this saves you headaches/money and helps increase viewers at a faster pace.

good luck
