Complaint
In regards to Death's post that apparently got his site closed down and his thread closed up.
I am not denying he used it but I am willing to bet any of us here have done something like this in the past at one point or another. That style is no more unique than a hunred other boards out there. I didn't see anything in his posts where he denied using any part of any hack. I am not sure who turned him in for this but it was a very low and chicken ++++ thing to do in my opinion, esepcially when he said he would change it tomorrow, not soon enough?? Someone is obviously very threatened. |

The thread was closed because the site wasn't online, it's a standard procedure for the forum

The official complaint was the distribution of copyrighted material.
1. The program in question did not even contain any of the material it claimed to have. 2. Our site wasn't the only site using the material, if you want, I can give you a list of sites which I know have been using this, but there are probably a couple more which did so. The lamest of the whole thing was that only my host got contacted, not me. Luckily, my host is a good friend of mine, and the whole thing has been resolved, and we will be relaunching pretty soon. Anyway, there's not much to do about it. Situations like these make me think though, those 'respected people' don't even have the guts to just ask me about the file in question, and contact my host while I'm asleep... (Yes, the person in question does indeed run a pretty big site, pretty much involved with most of the vB hacking community. Quote:
I'm just realy angry at this person (and no, I will not mention his name, I'm not that low), for just contacting my host without contacting me |

Oh well, there's not much to do about it now, exept for relaunching - which we will do.

Nothing like a rat.
Who ever wrote the order to shut down needs to be challenged too. A cease and desist should have been all that was filed. This is not a legal oder to shut a site down. Only a court can do that. You guys need attornies. |

ah yes it would be great if you did something like that, i would point and laugh at the person who shut your site down by bypassing you.
that would make my day. |

I never actually got to see the site before it was taken offline, so I can't really make any judgement.
One thing that I will say is you'd think that people would at least approach the author of the site about a complaint than going straight to the host, especially coders from here as a community.. While going straight to a host often is the most effective resolution to stolen content and code, it's not always necessary and in this instance it doesn't sound like it was. |
