.org using default or experimental search option?

Neither its actually a hybrid using phpinclude to query google

The search results when I use the search dropdown in the top menu do not appear to be Google search results; has vB really replaced the search engine with some kind of Google-parser?

right now the default one, but i think we'll switch to the experimental one after the merge
