Building new forum page, need help with requirements.

Hi all

I'm making a custom hack for my forums, just something simple. In my page (/forum/customhack.php) I want to display the standard forum templates - just like the forum main page but instead of the forum listings, my custom content would be there. How should I go about this? Should I just copy /forum/index.php and replace the forum listings part with my new content?
