Could you give some details on how to vBulletin's login with the rest of a website?

I'm using phpBB but would like to move to vBulletin. I just want to make sure this is a reasonably possible modification with some knowledge of php/SQL and not a totally crazy hack.

Notes:
This is what I have now: My users login via phpBB, then they are tracked and authenticated as they move around the site. I also have 2 mySQL/php apps which the users use. They are integrated into the phpBB login/authentication as well.

it can be done. I've done it. The amount of work depends upon how your current non-forum sections are coded.
