Default 2.x to 3.x vBulletin

Yes... I am a vBulletin 2.x dinosaur.

I admit it... there is something about 2.x that I still like. Not to mention my fear of change.

But the time has come where I think I may take that MAJOR leap. I think I want to upgrade my vBulletin 2.x to the new 3.x version of vBulletin .

I have a fairly large database (maybe 400 megs or so).

- How hard is to upgrade?
- What issues may I encounter?
- Will I hate myself in the morning?

Please help.

You can always do a test upgrade from a db backup just to make sure it will upgrade correctly. Some issues you may encouter are if you have hacks installed that majorly change your database layout but those most likely can be fixed. It's not hard to upgrade I've upgraded several vBulletin boards from vB2 to vB3 since it has come out for friends and myself (most of them not that large though.) and you shouldn't hate yourself in the morning as vB3 is the FUTURE.

Wow... thanks for the fast reply.

In your opinion what are the top two or three reasons that vBulletin 3 is better than vBulletin 2?

Also...
I love messing with the look and feel of my forum through the template system which I love in vBulletin 2. Will I still be happy in vBulletin 3?

Thank you in advance for your time.

A bit cleaner code and it is being supported better and more by vBulletin community members and the staff themselves. Also sooner or later vB2 support may stop all together.

If you have a Larger forum, there is ALOT of optmizations that have been made to the code as far as cacheing and delaying updates to somethings to be done once an hour instead of instantly.

Template conditionals if you are a designer, you will fall in love

I do have a classic skin avaible that will mimic the vBulletin 2 style

How would that be accomplished?

Would I install a fresh vb 3.0 and then import the 2.x database into it?
