Set-Up Order questions
hey guys, TIA for help. I'm a long-time vB user, never had reason to get on the admin side until now.
I've done low-grade crap personal HTML sites, never anything of substance. that being said, I want to put together a serious vB site. Here's my 1st dumb question: Can I buy vB and do all the customizing, etc, and then arrange for a host and upload the whole thing, ready to go live? 2nd dumb question: the paid subscriptions... how much additional set-up is involved? merchant accounts, etc. would you also need to set-up the PayPal subscription service? 3rd dumb question: other than poring over this site, what else can y'all recommend to help me dive into vB administration? thanks! |

1. Yes, provided you run a server on your own system. You can also upload it to your host and run it while the forums are closed so nobody but you can access it.
2. In the case of PayPal, you need to edit your PayPal options to set the IPN URL. vB's help explains how. 3. Just play around with it, and read the manual. |

Sounds good! thanks for the help.
So I should do this: 1. Register domain. 2. Arrange for hosting. 3. Buy vB. 4. Upload vB. 5. Customize/Hack. 6. Set-up PayPal payment processing. 7. Go Live. 8. Advertise. yes? and you think it shouldn't be hard for an educated person with non-web programming experience to pick it up? I'd like to get this thing up and running before May 1st. |
