Default A blog for my vbulletin forum...

I've often pondered this and think it would be a great mod for a forum... I really like the rss capabilities of a blog as well as the centralized and compartmentilization of the content. Why couldn't we build something like this for a forum?

Here's the idea:

Add an admin function that allows the administrator to "flag" posts he thinks is worthy of the forum's blog. This would then place the initial post on a blog (with replies in the comments section) so that all really good content is centralized and available via an RSS feed.

It would be like a blog with limitless contributors... Anyone interested in building it?

Just a thought. Why not move the thread to your "Blog" Forum (and leave a redirect in the original forum.)

The Blog forum could be set up so the first post displays differently than the replies and you could set up an RSS Feed for it.

No hacking required.

That could work... I was just thinking of something more streamlined... I'd like the blog to actually look and function like a blog - categories, etc...

We currently use the vBJournal hack - (re)branded as a blog system - as a "journal" does not mean much to our uk users.

I think the journal hack is cool, but not exactly what I am looking for. The Journal seems to be a bunch of satellite blogs that different forum members can use at will... I would like to create a central blog that administration controls the content on... To me and my forum, there would be much more value in that...

With template mods, subforums and a bit of planning I really think you can get exactly what you are looking for - a central blog that you select the content for - without any hacking required.

Basically, you would create a forum specific style and apply that style to your main blog forum. Then, your subforums would serve as your topics. You don't have to display the Blog Forums on your forum home if you don't want to.

We had a whole emagazine running this way for quite a while and it worked very nicely for us. The problem with hacks is that you have to reinstall most of them whenever you upgrade your forum. With template mods, you stand a very good chance of not having to do anything to your blogs when you upgrade. At most, you'll have to edit in a template change or two if a vbulletin template that you use changes drastically.

Having read what you want I have to agree with Amy - you should be able to do this by just creating a special style for a "blog" forum.
