vBulletin search plugin for Firefox
Couldn't find it via the search engine here, but has anyone created a search plug-in for Firefox (like these) that would search a specific vBulletin-powered message board from the browser itself? I'd think once you had the original code in place, modifying on a per-forum basis would simple.

Download this one here and modify it. It's very easy.

I think you can do one up for your site, submit it there, and get users to just install it from their site.

I switched out the search URL to vBulletin's search URL, however when used, the Firefox plug-in just brings you to the main search page in vBulletin. I'm looking for a way to populate that search and execute it directly from Firefox (like other search plug-ins). Am I just not including the right path here? Here's the code to the plugin: Code:
<search version="1.0" name="TannerWorld Junction" description="TannerWorld Junction" action="http://forums.tannerworld.com/search.php" form="http://forums.tannerworld.com/search.php" method="GET" queryEncodig="utf-8" queryCharset="utf-8" > <input name="search" user> <input name="cat" value="0"> <input name="incldead" value="1"> <interpret> </search> |

I think the path is right, but not the <input name> portions ...

One of my mods (pentapenguin) made a customised version that's really easy to install and users just need to click on a link to install it to the quick search (and we haven't had any problems with it).
Instructions: 1. create a folder in the /forum/ directory called mozillasearch e.g. yoursite.com/forum/mozillasearch/ 2. in the attached aboho.src file, replace all of my urls with your own forum urls and then upload the files to the mozillasearch folder. 3. Edit Styles & Templates->Styles & Templates->Edit Template->Footer Find Code:
<a href="#top" onclick="self.scrollTo(0, 0); return false;">$vbphrase[top]</a> Code:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> function addAbohoSearch() { if ((typeof window.sidebar == "object") && (typeof window.sidebar.addSearchEngine == "function")) { window.sidebar.addSearchEngine( "http://www.aboho.com/forum/mozillasearch/aboho.src", "http://www.aboho.com/forum/mozillasearch/aboho.png", "aboho", "General"); } } var browser = window.navigator.appName; if (browser.indexOf("Netscape") != -1) { document.write("- <a href='javascript:addAbohoSearch();'>Aboho Mozilla/Firefox Search Plugin"); } </script> |
