I am an experienced PHP/MySQL developer, but new to vBulletin.

I know this idea has been discussed and tossed around in other threads, but I'm ready to create and implement a search tool for calendar events. This will involve searching the event title, description and any custom fields. The results will be displayed in a list of events separated by month and year (when applicable.) This same results page would also be useful for users who wish to browse events in a list versus the calendar view.

I would be interested to hear from those who are experienced with vB's calendar architecture from a database and code perspective. I want the search to conform to vB's permission model, just like the forum search. In other words the results will only include records for events the user has access to.

Can someone point me to existing vB code examples that will assist me in creating this mod (or hack)? Any other words of wisdom?
