I think this would be a really cool hack. Only thing is I would want the downloadable version (attachment link) to be without the brand thus creating two of every image file.

Is there any easy way to do this?

Yes. Make the necessary changes to newattachment.php and/or functions_upload.php and/or functions_image.php
