Need some help or advice with columns

I want to set up VB as a place for an admin to post a library of articles, not a discussion board. No Members, No posts or replies. Therefore I want to remove the folder icon column, the last post column, the replies column, and change the default sort order to sort on thread name rather than last post. I've done some searching, but am not finding anything on this.
