Templates Help!

Just wondering which templates I edit to add the following:

1. Add something just above the categorys and just below the navigation on my forum index (vb3.0.3)
2. Add something just above the threads and just below the navigation on hte forum display page.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just another quick question.

In a few templates, like GENERIC_SHELL for example, there are calls to variables, like $HTML, $NAVBAR etc. So my questions are:

1. How do you go about making a call to a custom template from inside another template?
2. How can you create your own $MYVAR things which on loading turns into a template I have already defined?
