An awesome add-on chat w/ vbulletin integration.....only $5!
I've just added this on my site a few days ago. This is the best bang for the buck chat program! I don't like the java based programs because they're too slow and have a huge lag. This one seems to be faster and much more user friendly. You can share files, send instant messages, etc.
The name of the program is called FlashChat. It comes with VERY good instructions on how to integrate it w/ your vbulletin member base. All current moderators/admins are automatically moderators of the chat and all current members are automatically given access. Took me all of maybe 10-15 min. to set it up and the positive replies keep on coming! Wish the following was a little bigger because it'd be a great base for additional hacks. http://www.tufat.com/script.php?id_num=2 <--- FlashChat Program My website is http://www.euroteknik.com/forum but you will have to be a registered user to see the "Chat Lounge" link on the navbar. |

I had a play around with this chat room for a client all but a couple of weeks ago now. It works but I found it absolutely useless really. The instructions for vB integration work, but it's very loose. There's no instructions on how to integrate it into your forum layout, and as far as skinning I could only find documentation on how to change colors. In the end myself and my client settled with SigmaChat

I used SigmaChat, but had alot of users complaining about the Java not working. The flash experience of FlashChat is nice and the cost is downright amazing.

Yep I may be looking into getting it myself. You really can't beat $5 and the client is pretty decent. On top of that I know basic flash and customization should be easy for me. I would say it's great piece of software to start off with, but I personally don't know how it handles large traffic.
I don't want to use SigmaChat since some people's FireFox browser is crashing. Also I don't think it's worth it at the moment compared to getting a free IRC channel and a Java Client to connect to it. Also with IRC there are bots that can post who is currently in chats like Sigma, but unlike Sigma anyone can join an IRC channel member or not. Unless someone has a bot for such a task to monitor people. For $5 I'll mod it and give it a try. It looks like it's also possible with some mod to display who is in chats on your forum aswell. Just my 2 cents unless you guys know of a better alternative. |
