Last x threads (with pagetext) on VB page?

I am looking to put the title, date and pagetext (from the first post) from the last x threads in forum y on a VB page.

Could anyone point me in the right direction? I know how to do this using lots and lots of DB calls, but I know there is a method to do this using a "while" statement.
