guests can or can't view topic when creating topic

hello,

my idea is the following:

a thread starter can decide wether his thread can be seen by guests or not.
the specific value will be saved within the database [vb_threads - something like this] and is used later to check the topic if guests are able or not to view it.
can someone please help me with the database thingy. i know that i need to alter the table threads but do not know how since i am no sql freak.

that would be my first question. thank you.
