I have a vb3 forum on my site, (although it is not accesssible yet to the public).

I am wanting to utilize the user database from vb3 to control access to these other pages.

can someone guide me in the right direction?

Yep, you can use the vbadvanced cmps (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=65797) ... it's very easy to work with.
