Default Posts Being Deleted?

Has anyone had their posts deleted here? Part of my post contained a few criticisms of the way some things are being handled concerning vBulletin and, like the wind, it appears that my post is gone and without a trace or notice...

Hmmm....

If my post was deleted, it's just an example of the reason why as of today I've seriously considered moving away from vBulletin, what I've used and developed with many sites for... wow... could it be 5 years?

If it was deleted for no reason then yes that is very dissappointing news, I checked for all posts by you and could only find alot of those Ravio rants. So either you did not post it, or did not complete the posting transaction or it was deleted.

Hi slinky.

Looking through your posts, I have noticed that a recent thread of yours was deleted due to it's content to be against the rules. I can't go into more detail in public, however, if you would like to continute this further with me, or any other staff - Please feel free to drop me a PM

you were selling a vb license here which is against the rules of ALL official vb sites, and therefore this thread has been moved to the trash.

no other posts have been deleted to my knowledge...

With respect intended, I think your post typifies an attitude that does not have the respect and understanding of your audience. I have no prior encounter with you specifically and this is relatively tame, but I've found a disturbingly increasing number of vbulletin associated reps to assume that vBulletin is far more important than it is.

I have not a clue what site is "vb official" and what isn't nor do I know what this means. I don't see any trade mark, stamp or seal for this and also what does it mean? Owned? Approved? Controlled? To further complicate matters, I have not a clue what "vb rules" are across the network of official vBulletin web sites. Most of us are busy making money elsewhere and come here on occasion.

At the very minimum I could have been notified that a post of mine was being considered for deletion due to the interpretation of your rules to have been violated. The post could have been unapproved as an alternative. Instead, it disappears into the dust because "you should know all our rules, it's against our rules so YOU do not pass go and go directly to the trash." I would have posted it repeatedly to find continuous frustration. My post was partially content with some sale information and I wonder what happens to posts that are on the borderline of some rule and guess that they too disappear into the dust by those that have power to do so.

Yes, this pales in comparison to some of the inane issues I've dealt with as some of those who have become associated with vBulletin have gone from fellow business professionals/developers to feeling a sense of power being associated with the "Microsoft" of php bulletin boards. I can sympathize with the founders but at times I'm surprised at this kind of conduct. Think about your conduct before you do so.

Why can't you go into more detail in public? At vBulletin.com I've found that many moderators are extremely happy to point out rules violations at every opportunity.

As I said before, I don't see any "rules" conspcuously posted here either.

I'm just a guy who is trying to figure out easily what is going on here. I've fortunately solved the problem of the "sale" and will not need to use bad words like "invision" here so we can move the conversation to the above issues exclusively.

Well, all official vBulletin Sites are mentioned on vbulletin.com or here at the last category on forumhome.

It is true, that the rules which apply on all official sites aren't that easy to find, we are working on that currently.

But actually in this case it's not even needed to know the rules which are set for all official sites.
You thread was violating at least rule Nr. 6 of the lounge Rules:
Quote:
6) Please don't try to sell things here in the Lounge. This is not a marketplace.
That rule is easy to find, as it is the announcement in this special forum: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/announcem...nouncementid=9

Also Rule number 6 of the general vbulletin.org Rules (stickied thread in the announcement forum) states especially not to trade vBulletin versions on this board.

So actually it may have been a mistake by you, because you were in a rush or whatever, but that doesn't change the fact, that the rule itself is easy to find, and you just didn't read it.

I admit, that i made a mistake myself, as i was in a rush as well, and just deleted your thread without sending you a PM, i'm sorry for that, next time i'll send one i promise.

I appreciate your sentiments and grace but I respectfully disagree and hope you consider where I and probably most are coming from. I'm glad that at least I've learned over the years to think about why posters might be posting in the wrong places and learn from their behavior and lose my ire from frustration. I have to think like them and remember that I'm way too familiar with my layout and difficult to remember how it is for most others.

A set of rules in a cluttered place (like most php-based systems) needs to be a place that is very obvious and/or conspicuous and appropriately labeled. An announcement will not do when it is phrased in as "Lazy Lounge Lizards' Loose Laws" and appears mostly to catch my eye as irrelevant humor. How about "POSTING RULES" or something of that nature. Yep, I know you'd like to be cutesy and loungy but there is a time and place for everything and I'll take clarity any day since you have chaos in its absence.

Second, board rules should appear in all the places one certainly expects -- how about in the FAQ? How about a link somewhere on the main forums page? In the same way you have terms of service that are easy to use, so should the rules of the board.

While I don't doubt that design has been done nicely here and it seems to someone like you who is familiar with these surroundings that the rules are clearly posted, they aren't. A good webmaster should also always assume that people are busy and that which is of paramount importance needs to be made clear and blatantly obvious.

Thank you for your consideration.

Maybe we could have either a section in the Usercp on the left linking to a rules page, it could flash like the new pm hack that (erwin i think) made.

Or put a link on the forum home at the top somewhere?

In Xenon's defence though this is the first time i can recall him ever deleting a thread and not pm'ing the person a reason so he must have been having an off day We all have them and he's about 50x busier than us so you got to respect that really.
