Do people really need to sign a petition to voice their disgust for adware and spyware? Is there anyone out there that actually likes the stuff (besides the 'businesses' who employ it of course)?

Good luck with the petition, but in my opinion it is a vain attempt. Online petitions rarely go anywhere or make much of an impact.

Why isnt anyone doing anything about it? I dont hear any news on any attempts to stop it. It doesnt hurt to sign it to show your disgust. Appreciate the non-support.

You can't just STOP it. There is no global organization that enforces it, it is up to the end user to make the decision of if the source is trustable to use, remember at the end of the day YOU are the only person to blame for the spyware and adware being on YOUR computer.

Please explain to me how I am responsible? I do not make the programs which are involuntarily installed on my computer.

Example:
I just bought a brand new laptop 2 nights ago. I got it connected to the internet the same night and I have not installed ANYTHING on there yet. The next day I had about 50 pop ups when I wake up. Remind you I havent installed anything on my computer. How am I responsible for this? Should I not get on the internet?

The way to stop it would be laws with punishments for companines and indivdiuals who create these programs.

And how to your perpose enforcing such laws, or even passing a 'global law'. You are responsible for what is installed on your own computer, even if someone attempts to sneak it in a backdoor or under a second program.

Sure spyware/adware sucks, but money makes the world go round (really oil dose but we will save that for anthor post ). Companys will take any chance to make a profit if the payoff is big enough, thus you will continue to see more and more spy/adware.

Case in point, lets asume the USA passed a law that stated that I could not include spyware in my programs. My software company resides in texus, who's stoping me from moving shop to canada or mexico where such law would not affect me?

1st point, You have to stop it somewhere.

2nd point, You own your computer, because of spyware and adware your computer becomes hard to use. Therefore your computer is being destroyed or whatever you want to call it because of someone elses actions. If this is ok, then i can go to someones house and break their windows but its their house so they are responsible for it. When the police get there, I will tell them this.

3. Enforce the laws same way Virus laws are enforced under "Destruction of Personal Property". You start spyware or adware, either get a fine or go to jail. Simple.

4. All of you are sitting here cutting down something that if enough people came together and said their sick of it, It could change. Instead of being negative why dont you try to be a little positive. Whats it hurt to sign it? My family is friends with Arkansas Congressmen which is the state I live in so that would be my first attempt. Its not like im just going to try and mail this to congress. Im going to start low and try. I personally think its sad that theres a problem and because of people like you all it will never get resolved.

Thanks,
Chris Ruesink

I see your point. There needs to be laws in place as I don't think it's against the law to change someones homepage to a porn site.

However, as far as the idea of signing a petition against adware and spyware itself - that's somewhat ridiculous as the people who do this kind of stuff aren't nice, law-abiding people. They're villains who are trying in the long-run to get your money !

Anyways best of luck with the petition!

We all hate the problem that is the common ground, but it usually is on our computer due to the users lack of attention. Online petition may not work, but til a law is put into place did you investigate ways to stop it on your end? Software such as Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy? They help to reduce the amount of spyware and adware and are regularly updated to help you stay clean. I can tell you I have been a user of internet for many many years, and internet-downloaded softwares for many many years as well, and yes I have gotten the odd spyware and adware (odd because I take precautions) and they were removed instantly with software such as listed above.

So what I am saying is it is not likly a law is going to be put in place to eliminate this, and if it is I doubt it would work, maybe you could get help to stay clean and stay unaffected. I am not sure if you have tried it but its a first step before petitioning to find out solutions.
