Default Multiple Forumhome

I am interested in buying a modification for our vBulletin 3.03 forum. What i am looking for is the possibility to create several "forumhome" in one site using the same database.

To be specific:

- The user should be able to choose from several different forumhome views with different combinations of forums.

(if you are interested in only a macintosh forum you pick forumhome #1, if you like pc:s also pick forumhome #2 which shows more forums, forumhome #3 also includes some offtopic stuff asf)

Of course I need a possiblity to create these forumhome:s in my admin interface.

I also would like the "getdaily" feature to only include the forums in the selected forumhome.

Please give me feedback if this is possible and at what cost. If others are interested in funding such a project, please write a comment.

Also, if this would need several vbulletin licenses i will buy as many as it takes (have seen discussions about that earlier) - we already have 7 licenses as far as i know.

having different forumhome with "different displays" AND "different forum content" means you break the license of vBulletin. you then need to have an independant vB license for each display.

also, you'Re not in the proper place to make such a request.. as titled and described in the forum, this one is for free modification requests.

you have to make this request in Service Requests forum, in the bottom of the forumhome page, so you can ask for professional coders that would do the job.

I don't think this would break the vBulletin license:
  • It runs off the same database
  • It runs off the same domain
  • All content is reachable as far as I understand - the user has just the choice to hide certain forums he's not interested in, which isn't very different from collapsing them.
  • It could be achieved with usergroups - registered has only access to let's say one forum (maybe support). There are other usergroups (one for each category) which the user can join.

I think there is also a hack which allows the user to select which forums he want's to see on forumhome. Lemme check ...
Edit: Seems like I was wrong.

But there was a hack to specify which forums should be shown at forum home:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=28262

This request just takes it one step further in makeing this a user option.

Not really, if you are clever enough to use only one database.
You can add any file/table you want to vBulletin software, nobody will stop you.

You don't need a hack to do this if you want all of the forums visible to non-members.
1. Make all forums visible to logged out users (except private forums, of course)
2. Make all forums hidden to your registered users (unless you have forums you want visible on all versions of forum home.)
3. Create public usergroups that can see certain subsets of your forums.
4. Allow people to join the usergroups they desire to join.

You could also implement a subscription program in the mix and have a paid forum set as well.

It's no biggie to do and requires no hacking whatsoever.

Nexialys:

- As others have pointed out I do not think this would violate the license, and even if it did I would buy the necessary licenses (with this I would migrate seven forums into one - keeping all the licenses we already have).

KirbyDE

- You are perfectly correct: my request would just make it easier to browse a site with say 500 forums. You could just stack forums into separate forumhome:s and put tabs to choose which forumhome you like to browse at the moment.

amykhar

You are correct, that is one way of almost doing it. I really would like separate forumhome:s though and let the user pick which subset to watch using tabs.

- I don't want to doublepost this in the professional request forum yet, if someone finds this interesting you are free to contact me using ICQ, AIM or PM.

The tab thing becomes easy as well. If you create appropriate categories for your subset, each tab would link to the forumdisplay for that specific category. You don't have to use forum home at all. You could design your own page for the index.php

So, macintosh stuff would be one category. - one forumdisplay
pc would be another category - another forum display
off topic would be a third - you get the idea.

Then, you set your admincp so that forumhome isn't index.php.

Then, you create an index.php that suits your tab design.

Conditionals will let you style things as you like them. - different colors or different banner ads for different forums, etc.
