Im sure its easy to do, Ive only seen one for total users online including their names, but I just want it to simply show the number of users online for 24 hours, also would it update in real time or only every 24 hours?

Use that one, and don't install the template: forumhome_todayloggedinuser
And just edit the other template: forumhome_todayloggedinusers
Edit it until it meets your desired design.
