board version number on hacks

Hi folks,

So far I haven't installed any hacks on my vB3 Gold board as the majority of hacks I've looked at were released during the Beta and RC stages, the problem here being that they all have "vBulletin 3.0.0" as the version they were written for. Is there any chance we could have the ability to have that changed to "vBulletin 3.0.0 Gold" or whatever the version number is it's been updated for? It would make it so much easier to find hacks that I know would work with my installation, IE. I would know that the code in the hack is going to correspond with the code on my board and not have to worry that the code in the latest release is different. That last bit may sound a bit odd but I'm sure most of you will understand what I mean.

Just a small idea.

Most hacks written for RCX or even some of the betas will still work with Gold

nope they dont - mmost dont work and u will only spend your time trying to get em to work when quite a few clearly dont.Admittely some do - but its a gold mine out there to find out what does work on Gold and what does`nt so i go with him and say they should be marked as RC1 /RC2 or Gold etc that way its a clear system and no confusion to the end user which is us after all.

I have installed a few RC hacks only to find they dont work on gold or they need tweaking but for most of us (novices) its not the ideal solution.

I've installed about 10-15 hacks on my VB3 gold with 0 problems. Talkerbot, Talkerbot Learning system, vbTimelines, calendar attachments, awards/medals/cards, glossary(still unreleased actually), links and files database, vbindex, thread categories, 15 most recent searches, Unanswered threads, Public Display of Affection (reputation display), custom profile pic gallery all worked fine.
So I was quite suprised to see you say "most" don't work with vb3 gold.

I dont have nearly that many hacks installed but most of my stuff and anything ive worked with are still working on Gold.

the guy asked a simple question and i replied that some clearly dont work on vb3 gold and if u go see u will see why.Admitelly as i said before some do work but NOT all do so for this reason he suggested a renaming structure such as RC1 and RC2 and i for one think its a good idea as it gives a clear Indication of what does work for vb3 gold.

Maybe u have installed 15 hacks and they all work but u must admit if one dont work and its listed as VB3 then surely a system which clearly stats is for vb3 gold is beneficial to us all?

But really, can you point them out? or let the coder know taht they arnt working so they can rerelase them in a working state?

Quite clearly there is some confusion.

All hacks for vB3 should work for RC1 and above. Any hack that doesn't work for those versions should be removed so we will need those pointed out to us, if we don't see them first. If there is a problem installing a hack on the final version of vBulletin 3, the appropriate place to ask right now is in the thread for that hack. In the future, it will be looked into making the tags clearer. As it is now the title appears to be added automatically without intervention of the user so there is no way to do what you want with the current system.

@Lasto: iirc i already posted, that if you have a big list of hacks which don't work in vb3 gold, you may inform me, and i can think about add a Pre vb3.0.0 Status to the list as well.

Right now i did not hear anything, so i assume there aren't much hacks which don't work on vb3, and therfore, it's not really needed to add such a mark, right?

I've installed about 5 hacks for my 'test board' which is running gold and havn't had any problems.
